Outer screen printing on the sheeting wrapped around the scaffolding. A good example is here on Flickr- St Pauls.

Of course buildings can get wrapped with plain sheeting which costs a lot less, or advertisers can fund it.

I noticed workmen round the back of the Odeon today inspecting near the roofline from a cherry picker, no scaffolding there, just the three sides.

Thankyou Delicolor,

But my question (which was extremely vague I realise!) was aiming at the purpose of the wrapping/screening. Is it a temporary aesthetic measure to shield the eyes of outsiders when the main City Park even is going on, or is it for maintence works?

I am cynical enough to think the former passed off as the latter, and with the Council hoping someone else will eventually pay them back for it.

Tomorrow is the big day, how difficult was it to avoid a Bradford City home fixture?

Thanks for the insightful and articulate post, you are welcome to your opinion.

Unfortunately you missed the point, there might well be more people in Valley Parade than in the park, with 9000+ Bradfordians holding season tickets it would have been sensible and simple not to have the 2 events clash.

Was a really dismal morning but great by the time it "opened", me & my son went twice, once for half an hour before the footie then afterwards.

Gutted I couldn't be around for much yesterday, but it was so busy down there. It'll be brilliant if there can be more events. Lots of positive reports on Twitter etc,

Here is some pics of the event from Flickr:

The "Grand Finale'" was a bit shambolic, it was announced five minutes after it was due to begin that it would be happening initially on the City Hall stage which is where the incredible squirting man show happened. Everyone who had a viewing spot around the pool wasn't going to move and risk losing their spot. We were on the grassy knoll (no, not the Pavilion one, they weren't letting anyone who wasn't important up there). The PA, although loud, was unintelligible for speech if it wasn't directly beamed at you.

The show transferred to CityPark at round about 7:15ish, starting with the aerial ballet which went on way too long and got dull quite quickly with a rather dirge music track. It perked up afterwards with a lively medley, some of them with fireworks. (Some were on the roof of Gallery One, the others in a fenced off compound next to the courts on what had been Channing Way).

There was a feeling of anticipation that at some point the fountains were going to come into their own and do something amazing but I felt that they never actually did, they just seemed to be doing their normal muted sequence which didn't obviously relate to the music. To the stirring chords of "Also spake Zarathustra" the big one finally gushed with the moving lights sweeping up and down the jet but their impact had been lessened somewhat by them having been relentlessly sweeping & twirling aimlessly all afternoon (although only really showing up when dusk arrived at about 6:45).

The lighting on the reed columns remained switched off throughout and the only laser beam I saw was a laser pen from a BORG protestor being waved above the Odeon projection. (The Odeon projection was inspired, by the way...)

So the hype in the paper about seeing *ALL* the capabilities of CityPark was just that- hype. There appears to be provision under the decking for four access pits to pick up power and presumably data feeds for temporary lighting but otherwise nothing new.

I did find one thing out though (the day before), the staircase down to the pump chamber is to the left of the Gents toilets in the Pavilion, not through the doors within the retail unit vestibule as I previously thought. (They might be an emergency exit perhaps).

I was away unfortuntely but my family went down to the City Park opening event.

They were surprised to see that the shopping streets and all the shops were packed out as well. Whether this event was as spectacular or not as they made out, putting events on once or twice a week all summer round should certainly keep people coming into Bradford. Beer festivals, music festivals and shows, markets etc. Something to make the centre feel alive.

It just needs good promotion, good PR and good organisation.

I was at the Bradford Cit ygame (my mate's a fan, and we got a really good matchday hospitality deal - ticket, lunch and a pint for £20!), and then wandered into Bradford afterwards in search of a drink.

Was completely unaware of the event until we stumbled across it. There was a great turnout, although there were an awful lot of dodgy looking people milling about - Di Livio would have hated it! In the end, decided it was better to return to Leeds for a beer, as Wetherspoons was heaving and many of the other pubs looked a bit rough. Before the game though, we visited The Sparrow - a fantastic little bar and a real asset for Bradford.

Those people hanging from the giant balloons look like the same ones I stumbled upon in Huddersfield a few months ago.

I thought it was a great day. There were some dodgy looking people about but there was no trouble that I saw. Given the screw up with the main event being in two places at once I thought everyone was very patient and good humoured. It certainly was where I was stood in front of the courts at any rate.

I went down there this lunchtime too and it was much busier than usual, and the crowds there were mostly young families. Young families on their own have cleaned up far nastier places than Bradford just by their very presence. If this space is managed properly and now allowed to become litter strewn or full of whinos then they will keep returning.

With some luck we'll have a good summer and the kind of footfall in the city centre that will make retailers take notice.

I was surprised how busy it was, the city centre was mobbed & I felt like the public space wasn't big enough! The trains at forster square and the interchange was also packed. There was people from all around the BD district and not just the citys immediate suburbs. The maintenance of the park was looking shabby by 8 o'clock, imo proof that the council wasn't expecting this many people themselves! It was the first physical sign of Bradfords 'big city' tag for years and years.

The show was poor and unimpressive but the families and the kids all looked like they we're enjoying themselves, the crowd made the occasion. They should have one annually at the beginning of summer/end of spring!

If its something like this thats going to help bring people back into the city centre then it will be money well spent. At least bradford can now hold large scale events like this, the last couple of years have seen bbc screens erected at odsal for england matches simply because centenary sq. wasn't big enough. Drawing large amounts of people creates an obvious boost in trade but also enhances the the culture of district. Lets hope the council can keep it up!

Good to see Bradford with a bit of a boost and during warm weather the water always attracts no matter what city you are in.
