SeaTac Airport is growing fast...

I dont know if you guys have heard yet but within the next couple of months SeaTac will be getting some new airlines:

Air France- with daily non-stops to Paris starting in June!!
Midwest Airlines- with daily non-stops to both Milwaukee and Kansas City starting in April
Air Tran- with daily non-stops to Atlanta and Baltimore starting in May

The Port is also trying to land flights to Frankfurt, Beijing, Hong Kong, Singapore, and possibly Rome or Milan...

Also theres been rumors that Alaska Airlines is looking to built a second terminal all its own at SeaTac... that would be great... it would let Alaska grow

Anyone heard anything about all this??

It's news to me. Any ideas as to how or where a new wing would fit? I hope they dont make another island.

I just checked out the Port of Seattle's website and did not see any information about Alaska Airlines. Where did you get this information? I would like to find out more about these plans.

I heard about it on the local news Komo 4 when they were talking about AirFrance innagurating service to Seattle... they said it would be a completely separate terminal located where the cargo area is right now... they said Alaska Airlines was in talks with the Port so nothing is set in stone... but its something to look out for...

Weren't a couple of airlines threatening to move their operations to Boeing Field to avoid exorbitant taxation a while back? Did that get dropped?

I'm excited about air france...although it's too late for me to use it.

Yeah, southwest wanted to build something on Boeing field. Midwest should be interesting. That's the company that bakes cookies on board right?

I was aware of the news with Air France. I had not heard of what was going on with Alaska Airlines plans. I'll be looking around for news of that. Thanks for the update(s).

It was just a one-year study abroad. My ticket to get here only cost $450 (and it wasn't with air india!). Air france one-ways in late June cost $5000. I hate airline price economics. A roundtrip would be $1400---including the under-age-24 discount. There's cheaper, although less convenient, tickets available for students somewhere else. I'll just go with them... although a non-stop sounds soooo nice.

Isn't it STA Travel that is the student discount travel agency?

Are there any definite plans for infrastructural expansion or is this educated speculation that these airlines will lead to new development. Are we sure the newcomers aren't replacing airlines that are moving out of Seattle or going out of business? All of the aforementioned airlines already make stops in Seattle, correct?

This sounds great!

I think SeaTac is too small for an airport that services 4 million people and handles the capacity it does. It's among the top 30 busiest airports in the world, so I think further expansion is even more optimal

i wonder which airline they are trying to get to fly seattle-Hong kong?

That's great news!

I hope that airport will get major makeover. I love their new expansion of food court area. I think Sea-Tac aiport should be more welcoming similar to Portland International Airport and Minneapolis International Airport. Many times I go there to fly to few places in the past two years, I always feel somewhat uncomfortable being there for some reasons. I always get lost when I tried to find taxi cab or bus. I had to find the staff and show me where go to.

A couple of years ago, Sea-Tac's mainstream website showed plans for a "northern terminal", to be built in the cargo area just north of the north satellite. Then, suddenly, the plan was dropped from the website.

Perhaps Alaska is seeking to revive those plans? Afterall, someday, new concourse space will be needed, and Alaska has the most to gain.

Or, even more intriguing, is a brand new International terminal in the north cargo area. LAX and O'Hare are two examples of airports that have built seperate international terminals. This probably makes the most sense of all the options.
