i remember when San Diego used to play in front of 68000 at qualcomm stadium playoff games, incredible athmosphere that was..

I know there were close to 100,000 for the 1984 Olympics packed in there, without using the peristyle end.

Like you pointed out, there were alot of people (hundreds) standing/sitting on the grassy end behind right field for the baseball game.

Built in 1923 as a tribute to American soldiers lost during World War I, the Coliseum is probably the most historic stadium in the US, as well as a mecca for sports the world over. The Coliseum is the only stadium in the world that has hosted 2 Olympics (1932 and 1984), two Super Bowls (I and VII), and the 1959 World Series. Currently, it's home to the USC Trojans and with the success they've been having this past decade, regularly seat over 90,000 people. But the most people that the Coliseum has ever held was 115,300 people this past March during a exhibition baseball game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Boston Red Sox (the Dodgers are celebrating 50 years in Los Angeles this season and played at the Coliseum from 1958 to 1961).

*Fun Fact* The Olympic Torch lights during every 4th quarter of a Trojan game as well as whenever the Olympics are held in another city.

^ Usually, the left hand corner of the stadium near the bandstand. But more often than not, they sit on the south (press box) side of the stadium. Also some visiting fans sit wherever they want.

It won't. It's the current home of the University of Southern California (American) Football team. It could use a renovation, but I doubt it will ever be torn down.
