SM is committed to lowering its carbon foot print by making all its mall green... and I think its only your company that practice recycling discarded items... In fact FYI, all SM Dept stores have already converted all its lighting fixtures to CFL's since 2008, thus lowering their power consumption significantly....

SM supercenter Rosario NO MORE
Because SM supercenter Rosario No more because it will be SM city Rosario i get this theory in this article at SM Investments
SM group to invest P25B in ‘09 projects Thursday, April 30, 2009 Source: Doris Dumlao, Philippine Daily Inquirer MANILA, Philippines – The SM Group of taipan Henry Sy is investing P25 billion in the local economy this year to expand its retail, real estate, shopping mall, hotel, and banking businesses, an official said Wednesday. This capital outlay, budgeted by SM Investments Corp., the holding company of Sy’s SM group of companies, excludes another P7 billion that its mall development arm SM Prime Holdings Inc. plans to spend to put up new malls in China, SMIC president Harley Sy said in a briefing after the firm’s annual stockholders’ meeting. The domestic capital expenditure (capex) planned for this year by the SM group, which has historically invested heavily even in economic downturns, was higher than the P19 billion disbursed last year. SMPH will corner the bulk of group-wide capital expenditures this year with a total budget of P12 billion, followed by condominium development arm SM Development Corp. with P7.2 billion. SM Land Inc., which handles the group’s commercial property development (including those for business process outsourcing or BPO office buildings), has a budget of P2.7 billion. SM Land executive vice president Josefino Lucas said the company would break ground this year for TwoEcomCenter, the second of four BPO buildings planned in the Mall of Asia complex. “This will be an iconic and modern building that will add to the strong character and branding of the complex. Construction of our ferry terminal project will also commence this year, for completion in 2010, affording us a direct ferry connection to Hamilo Coast by then,” Lucas said. Another P5.1 billion will be spent for the hotel business, a new division within the company. The remainder of the capex will go to other businesses such as retail and banking (Banco de Oro Unibank and China Banking Corp.). For 2009, SM’s retail merchandising group plans to open 14 SaveMore branches, two SM Supermarkets, four SM Hypermarkets and two SM Department Stores. The SM non-food retail group, which is mainly the SM Department Store chain, expects to add 43,000 square meters in additional selling space this year for the new SM shopping malls in Naga, Rosales and Rosario. Two-thirds of the capex for this year is expected to be funded using internal funds. diba congrats.... |

Makro re-branded as SM Hypermart
Monday, May 4, 2009 Jenniffer B. Austria, Manila Standard Today SM Investments Corp. will soon convert its Makro stores into hypermarkets—outlets combining a supermarket and a department store—because the concept of wholesale buying no longer appeals to consumers, an official said yesterday. The Sy family’s holding firm initially would convert three Makro stores in Novaliches, Makati and Mandaluyong into hypermarkets, said Robert Kwee, executive vice president of SM Hypermarkets. “We will see first how things will develop,” he said. Makro has 15 outlets that cater mostly to restaurants, caterers and mom-and-pop stores, but the idea of getting a membership card to buy wholesale in a Makro store was no longer attractive because of the economic slowdown, Kwee said. Pilipinas Makro, which operates the Makro stores in the Philippines, originally was a partnership between the Sy family’s SM group, SHV Holdings N.V. of the Netherlands, and the Ayala group. But in 2004 the Ayala group sold its 28-percent interest in Makro to its joint-venture partners, and in late 2007 SM Investments folded the Makro stores into its operations after it increased its ownership of Pilipinas Makro to 60 percent. Makro also has outlets at the North Harbor, Cubao, Las Piñas, Cainta, Imus, Sucat, Cebu City, Davao City, Pampanga, Batangas City, Cagayan de Oro City and Iloilo City. The three Makro stores aside, SM Investments also plans to put up three other hypermarket outlets in Fairview, Las Piñas and Quezon City this year. The group will also open 14 more Savemore stores—smaller outlets that cater to customers’ day-to-day needs. |
