Ålesund & The Romsdalen Alpes

Ålesund & The Romsdalen Alpes

A short thread from places you have seen before if you ever clicked into my threads! Went back to favorite areas south of Trøndelag,
down Sunndalen and Romsdalen, which is in the middel of the Romsdalen Alpes. Then to Molde and Ålesund, two really beautiful cities,
though Ålesund's Art Nouveau will be given most space in this thread, since i've never posted any photos from that city.

Anyway, here we go, first of is Sunndalen, 3 hours southwest of Trondheim.

Sunndalsøra, a city with 5000ppl. What you see here is Hydro's gigantic aluminium factory.

Litldalen, with some really steep slopes. Tallest of the peaks is 1500m, and it
goes basicly strait down to about 50m, a perfect spot to spend the first night!

Waking up to grey weather, but its gonna shine up again!

Molde, a city with 25 000 people. Nice town, but will spend the day in a more beautiful town, so i just drive through on my way to Ålesund.

And then, Ålesund. Burned down completly in 1911, and was rebuilt in a perfect Art Nouveau style, pretty unique i'd say, considering
this is a rather small city with 42 000 people far west in Norway.

Sadly a few plots have been rebuilt with newer building which really isn't any nice.

Surrounding Ålesund.

But my trip continues, now towards Romsdalen, with the Romsdalen Alpes around it, Trollstigen, Trollveggen and the Troll Mountains!
But first, Eikesdalen and Aursjøveien.

Bridge across the river at Trollstigen (Troll-road ladder)

Mardalsfossen, a 705m tall waterfall, divided into two taller falls.

Then to Åndalsnes, Rauma and Romsdalen.

The top of Trollveggen, with the Troll mountains.

Åndalsnes, a town with 4500 ppl in the distance.

Hope it was worth your time!

Thanks for the pictures!

I've been to Trollstigen and the areas around on my way to Trondheim and I really recommend a visit to this area. It's is completely breath taking. The mountains, the fiord's and the waterfalls.

Awesome photos and beautiful scenery. Thanks!

Now that I've visited and enjoyed Northern Norway, I definitely have to visit the South too!

It was long ago, back in 1994 so I don't really remember. But I visited Lillehammer and then we took of E6 to some smaller roads.

Fantastic pictures, as always Þróndeimr!

A small correction, however: I think you risk offending quite a few people by calling the mountains you photographed "Sunnmøre Alpes" (or "Sunnmørsalpane"). Sunnmørsalpane are equally fantastic, but as the name says, they are located in Sunnmøre, specifically in the south/inner part of Sunnmøre around Hjørundfjorden in the districts of Volda, Ørsta, Stranda and Sykkylven. Åndalsnes is located in Romsdalen, and the mountains around Åndalsnes (and seen from Molde across the fjord), are consequently called "Romsdalsalpene", whereas the mountains around Sunndalen is usually called Sunndalsfjella.

A bit picky, and a bit boring, but before you know it, there will be a very angry Romsdaling on this thread.....
