Its too late to undo the passage of the original five but the fact that they passed at all was only after a lot of promises that it was a LIMITED endeavor--not a blank check to pepper the state with more of the same. But the last ballot was barely finished being counted before talk started of another casino (and table games)--such blatant hypocrisy. To O'Malley's credit he perceived this and championed taking this straight to the voters so that they could hold the industry and the politicians to the original deal.

2)"Crabs-in-a-basket" mentality?? Huh?? Really? Are you serious?? PG County wants to not only build a casino, but build the biggest casino/resort in the state. If it wasn't so much about competition, why not just settle for an "average-sized" casino @ Rosecroft? Also, they'd build it about 10-15 miles from Maryland Live, so now, you'd have 2 giant casinos in close proximity, which would truly be ass-backwards. Like murfniel said, PG had the chance to chime in on the original 5 casino sites, but for some reason, elected not to.......originally. now, a little bit more than a year later, PG wants to create this miraculous bill because now, all of a sudden, officials in y'all's county finally woke up and realized the benefits a casino would have on the county's economy. At the same time, the rest of the state of Maryland is supposed to modify their casino plans to accommodate PG? No, I don't think so. Try again in 2016 when Peter Franchot is in office.......lol. i'm ashamed to say this, but I know personally know tons of people in both Baltimore & PG areas that have the "it's us against them" mentality (when referring to each other's area), but I'm not one of those people. I'm just merely stating the facts, and the fact of this matter is that morally, it would be wrong for this casino to be built.

You can build classy without building big. Who in their right mind would turn down the opportunity to massively improve an area deemed a destination with an $800 million brand name casino/resort? Especially coming from a company, MGM, that has the means to follow through? In this economy? Stop kidding yourself. Baltimore or any other county would've said yes in a heart beat. So stop hatin. 3350 at Alterra
3350 at Alterra
Already broken ground. ![]() Though I have to disagree with the following statement in that this is no where near the Arts District. It is completely on the opposite end of Hyattsville. Also, it's not quite steps from the metro. Mosaic and Post Park are actually closer. Quote:

I know this is all water under the bridge now that Question 7 has passed.. but it just seems as others have said this could have been done better.. Table Games and Slots at four(4) sites (Mountains, Beach, Baltimore, and National Harbor) period.. end of story.. Work out a revenue sharing arrangement where some of the surrounding counties near the casinos get a small piece of the action for their own communties and move on.. Each facility would have catered to a specific market and not been in direct competition with each other..
The Maryland Live debacle I think came about after the site was originally suppose to be at Laurel Race Track.. then when that didnt work out because of the whole licensing fee/bid thing... It was rebid and Cordish got it.. since he didnt own Laurel or have an agreement with the owners they (The State) allowed it to be moved to Arundel Mills (since both sites I believe were still in Anne Arudel County)..which would have been OK if the whole National Harbor thing wasnt going to happen.. But somehow by whatever dubious means that crept into the picture years later after it was initially rejected by the powers that be in PG and the deal got done and the pot sweetened for those who worked on it and the casino industry.. Again.. Im not bemoaning the fact that PG has a casino or the benefits to the State.. its just that this could have been better handled and planned out..The way it is now it looks like the Casino industry from outside the state came in and paid politicos off to get this question on the ballot and then the money, on both sides, started to flow lobbyists and special interests got paid, political campaigns funded for 2014 and 2016 and friends and family members of politicos will have nice "consulting" and "PR" jobs at the new casinos........

, or big oil. Big business and politics always had skeptical relationships. I'm not sure why anyone would think casinos should be any different. IN the end, more competition never hurt the consumer. The industry will shake itself out over time. There will be winners and losers as in any other industry.

Konterra is pretty much on hold until the last leg of the ICC is finished. I would expect a groundbreaking date to be announced sometime next year when the ICC opens. |

$3B White Oak Science Center Good News For N. PG
Leggett announces Percontee firm as builder of $3 billion science center in Montgomery
While the new science center will be located in Montgomery County in White Oak, this is good news for Northern PG in places like Calverton, Laurel, Adelphi, and College Park. All of these areas are less then 5 miles from White Oak which could serve as an employment hub for those areas. In addition, PG can go after companies that will want to locate near the science center which is described as the eastern version of the I-270 science corridor. Keep in mind that this is one of those 20 year plans. But at least it's a plan. They will try to break ground as soon as possible as the FDA complained about the lack of amenities in eastern Montgomery County. The FDA saw the plans and is very excited and wants things to move along quickly. Quote:

The Domain at College Park Is Coming Along
The Domain at College Park is coming along nicely with more than have the retail space leased. This will be the first, and hopefully not the last, mixed-use development for West Campus. This development will also tie into the future Purple Line and hopefully spur more like-minded development. Potentially where the current commuter surface parking lot currently exists across the street. With a transit line, there would be less need for that much surface parking.
