I wouldn't worry so much about tornadoes. Yes, they're terrifying acts of nature, but they've never really hit the urbanized city in a devastating way. We also have a terrific early alarm system here and shelters are numerous, the tornadoes are nothing to worry about. They are in the back of most Oklahoma City citizens' minds.

I believe our tornadoes are extrapolated to the world outside Tornado Alley.

Skywatcher. I have lived in the inner north and south OKC sides all my life. There hasn't been one in the inner city since I've been alive. The outlying areas might get hit, but it's usually minimal [with the exception of a few, including the May 3rd, 1999]. Tornadoes don't just sweep out of the sky at anytime and blow us away. Tornadoes are a part of life here.

Lived near DT my entire life so have my parents... no tornado has come close to our house... most always on the outskirts of town. I actually hav never even seen a tornado in person... My parents saw their first one 2 weeks ago and they were 20 minutes from the house. My house never gets hail either, kinda weird considering I live in such a terrifying place haha

I think he meant, OKC is so prepared and so forewarned; that most people in the city don't worry too much about Tornadoes.

Sure, they are the most violent force in nature but luckily OKC's urban area seems to miss most of the really severe activity (knock on wood), as they usually hit the suburbs and rural just outside.

I am aware of Ft Worth's downtown taking a direct hit and having significant damage; but so far OKC really hasn't - despite being dead zero of tornado alley. And, due to the overwhelming weather technology and public warning system (it might be much better than that of Texas or Kansas or even Tulsa) - OKC people are probably the best prepared/warned of Tornadoes than any major metro on earth.

This is probably why most residents don't worry too much.

LOL! Not everyone is looking at the live webcam for latest construction updates. It is seem like many SSC members prefer when some people post the latest pictures of construction sites on threads.
