wow. it is impressive! it is the real thing and very well preserved, i guess it is already world heritage. if not, it should be. Good presentation, already heard about the city, but never seen it in detail.

I was seeing it as an historic Portuguese town, but stepped into this:

that hurted. lol. It shocked me a bit.

not a disneyland, like we see a lot currently, but a living museum-city.

Parabéns ao Brasil por manter a cidade intacta!

Never heard of this tiny town. But it looks great! If you think away the cars and the modern dressed people, it looks authentically 16th (or so??) century. Very good!

They say that if you drink from this water, you'll never leave Brazil!
Just kidding, it's just a legend!

Thanks for the comments!

Yes, it is a world heritage already.
Why did you get hurted? Because of the brazilian flag?
Brazil is brother nation, forever linked by portuguese language!
Obrigado, é importante para nós manter o patrimônio histórico.
Thanks for the comments!

Really? I didn't know that. The whole area is like this, several ancients towns in this part of Brazil. Thanks for the comments, Ruben!

yes the flag, I was browsing and seeing a perfect old Portuguese city and then... the flag in a building that for its architecture must be relevant in town, city hall maybe... the flag seemed very out of place.

I think that there's more than the language, that town is a proof of that, beside most people have family there.

And yes, it looks Northern. I guess the city was so perfectly preserved because it lost importance some time in its history, maybe 20th century... because with time, cities change a lot, because of human pressure to build new homes.

Ouro Preto lost its importance because of the end of gold mining activity and despite the fact is was the capital of Minas Gerais state until 1897 in the very beggining of the 19th century it has already lost its wealthness.

In the present time, Ouro Preto makes money with tourism and university, the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (Minas Gerais Federal University) manteined by brazilian federal government is one of the main universities of Brazil, well know by its mining engineering graduation.

It is incredible how well preserved and restored this town is. A real gem.

How is Salvador de Bahia in comparison?
