BUDAPEST [6] - hkskyline's Euro 2007 Tour (More Pest Scenes)

Keleti palyaudvar is one of Budapest's main train stations. As we were going to leave Hungary by train, we stopped by one day to buy our train tickets. Interestingly, it was cheaper to get a return ticket than to buy a single.

The interiors looked quite aged.

Vienna is a long train ride away!

From the outside, this station looks quite nice.

I remember photographing a similar shot in Germany before. I really like the silhouette look.

With the station looking quite old, the sight of a modern Austrian train provided quite a contrast.

We walked around the streets near the train station. Again, there were a bunch of colourful buildings.

But you can see an obvious difference to a comparable scene in the West. Nevertheless, if they spend some time and money repairing and repainting, the street scene would be very pretty.

Here's Budapest's Hong Kong connection :

As I've noted in one of the previous threads in this Budapest series, the Pest side has a run-down, gritty feel to it. But that shouldn't distract from the fact that there are a lot of really nice buildings in this part of town. It'll be easy to make them glitter again with some renovation work.
