Sorry to bring up such an old thread but I would love it if we co-hosted with Wales. Ireland were just too much of a burdon last time and three teams is too much for automatic qualification. I wouldn't be happy if the final wasn't in Scotland and it may give the SFA an excuse to enlarge Hampden - this time with government agency money as Wembley got it!!

Quote:
My favorite is probably Raith Rovers, where just about all seats are behind each goal. A very strange place but of course the club knew they only needed the seats to comply with regulations and not to actually use them so built them wherever it fitted best.
All this debt of course rules out that any decent training ground could ever be built or even modest long term talent development could be considered.
I also brought it up for this; If you are going to pick out a team, atleast know what you are talking about.
The two large stands are behind the goal because that is where the space is. There is a road with houses on one side and a railway on the other which carries freight. The view from the stands is very good and it allows you to get right behind your team or scare the opponents away (not literally but put them off). You can see the situation from the below picture.
Raith didn't even get into that much debt - about £300,000 - as most of the ground was built with lottery, government agency or SPL money.
There is also no need for a training ground - which the team could easily have afforded - as right next to the ground is an excellent park and school with the needed facilities as well as numerous other around the town. Raith also have the added benifit of getting the use of Hearts training academy very cheaply and Dalgety Bay sports centre which has excellent facilites.
When you try to put an arguement across, atleast know your stuff.

The stadium has been filled on a number of occasion when playing the Old Firm and rivals (as well as a couple of other occasions) and when the team were in the SPL average attendence was at 7000 (capacity is 10104).

That place should host the final.

I was having a lot of trouble imagining a Greek/Turkish joint bid. I can imagine the arguments about who would host the final, etc., would GO OFF!

Either country should be able to do it by themselves.

I wonder how keen UEFA would be to have an entire tournament in Turkey or Greece with tens of thousands of English fans over there. A couple of thousand Man Utd or Leeds fans is usually enough to cause trouble with the locals - so God knows what 20k would be like.

Wow, very nice stadiums for Ukraine/Poland.
When I see this I ask myself how Austria/Switzerland could get Euro 2008

But it would be unfair to not give the EURO to Turkey or Greeco only because there could be fights between the locals and the english "fans".

than just send the Liverpool fans
they have never amde troubles and the GS fans like Liverpool
(i think there is a friendship under some fans)

Because we have enough hotel rooms for everyone.
Because we have perfect infrastructure.
Because the other bids were inferior.
Because our stadia were built/paid for.
Because we have experience in hosting large scale sporting events.
Because our stadia are reasonably small and will be used after the tournament.
Because we wanted it the most and we showed it.

Yeah, we know how much Johansson has always wanted to please Blatter.

ok good points.
But you have to agree that the stadiums are inferior to the 2004 and possibly 2012 EC (not only capacity wise).

but really I do not remember so much about the 5th point "Because we have experience in hosting large scale sporting events."...except for 2 Winter Olimpics and some World Ski Championships? may you refresh my memory?

When I say "we", I include the Swiss.
(1954 WC... though it's quite long ago )

Sure, but my point is, stadiums are not as important as people tend to believe. How much time do you spend inside the stadiums, after all? And how much time do you spend in the cities?

And, by the way, I'm rooting for Croatia/Hungary. Great countries...
I'm afraid it's the bid least likely to win.

I like the stadiums a lot, some original designs. Stadion Poljud and Stadion Maksimir are my favourite.

The Poljud stadium in Split will only be redecorated - New south tribune and new roof. That's it. Probably reconstruction of stadium interior. New dressing rooms, Vip rooms, coffee bars, restaurants, shops...

And yes, no matter of EURO 2012, the new roof is going to look like space ship
Isn't that cool?
They say it's going to be made from some transparent and light material.

Poljud today
