I don't see why it is useless? POMA 2000 connected in an efficient way the lower part of the town to the upper part of the town.
The municipal authority closes it to save money, Poma will be replaced by buses.
Slower and less confortable ride.

This will lead to a sharp decline in the use of public transport in Laon.

Again, what a waste...

How much upcoming demolition works are gonna cost, for the sake of saving money?

The best thing to do would be to restore the tram. Then it could be extended to serve the rest of the town at the top and bottom of the mountain.

It was not useless. A funicular is the sole mean of transportation really efficient to link the upper town with the lower town in Laon ; a part of the city is built on hills.

Before, busses were in use but the slopes and curves made the ride very uncomfortable and they were very unpopular.

Laon is a very small town ; it can simply not afford this.

The Poma 2000 was at first proposed for Grenoble (it was built in the region) ; Grenoble decided to build a tramway instead : the capacity of the Poma was way too small.

Sad about the cost. Maybe someday, if there's something big happening in town...

Is there a French city that has ordered trams from any other company than Alstom?
