A giant firework display, the military procession down the Champs-Elysées and Firemen’s Balls: celebrate the French national holiday in Paris! The bal musette dances begin on 13 July. Discover the programme below. On 14 July watch the fireworks live from 11 pm on Paris' official website HERE.

The military procession on 14 July

The traditional 14 July military procession will start at 9 am on the Avenue des Champs-Elysées.

The troops will set off at 9 am and descend the Champs-Elysées from the Arc de Triomphe to Concorde.

The official theme of this procession is “the army in transition”. Peace-keeping soldiers and the blue and green berets of the UN will take part in the military parade for the first time. The highlights of the procession include the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Bir Hakeim, the 70th anniversary of the creation of three units of the Free French Air Force (FAFL), the 70th anniversary of the creation of the signal corps with the honouring of eight signal regiments and the 220th anniversary of the French national anthem, the Marseillaise.

Free. Procession on the Avenue des Champs-Elysées from 9 am.

Metro: Champs-Elysées Clémenceau or Franklin Roosevelt

This is the highlight of the national holiday. The fireworks will start at 11 pm. On 14 July, the skies of Paris will light up to the theme of disco (‘70’s and ‘80s).

You will be able to see the fireworks live again this year on Paris.fr. You can watch the broadcast of the show on your computer from 11 pm.

What is the best way to see the fireworks?

For the best view of the fireworks you are strongly advised to arrive early. Avoid coming by car or even by bus. The metro and the RER are the best ways of getting there. Equally, all the Vélib’ stations around the Champs de Mars will be empty and inaccessible.

The fireworks will take place at the Trocadéro Gardens. To make the most of this pyrotechnical spectacle, we recommend that you admire the fireworks from the opposite bank of the Seine (Champs de Mars-Tour Eiffel side). The Parvis des Droits de l'Homme is also a great place to enjoy the fireworks.

Free. 14 July at 11 pm for 35 minutes.

You know what would be even more awesome? If the three tiers of the Eiffel Tower were lit in Blue, White, and Red, and the vertical lines of the Montparnasse were lit in the same colours. So cool!

As far as the Eiffel tower is concerned, it was lit that way in 2009 to celebrate its 120th birthday.
