Towering Europe Tower

It's 178 metres tall, and when the soon to begin construction is completed in 2010, Europe Tower will be the tallest skyscraper yet built in the eastern European republic of Bulgaria.

Designed by Dutch architecture firm Hentrich Petschnigg & Partner, and developed by ECE and Advance Propreties, the tower will stand on one of the key entrances to the City of Sofia providing a strong and modern visual marker for entrants to the city.

The scheme is also intended as the centerpiece of an urban regeneration programme called Europe Park that will offer 40,000 net square metres of office space and an [/b]average floor-plate of 1,000 square metres.[/b] It will be topped by a spire pushing the height up to 209.3 metres making it one of the tallest buildings ever planned for the Balkans peninsula.

As a simple glass-clad rectangular block, the architect has added interest to the shape by carving out a section from one of the corners of the lower floors and a similar chunk from the top. A large internal space is provided on the upper floors in the form of a V shaped void whilst the sloping roofline also adds to the general angular shape the scheme is left with.

As part of the wider Europe Park development, the skyscraper will be supplemented by a massive 70,000 square metres of retail space and 25,000 parking spaces which combine to make the largest retail development in the entire country. Work on site is due to start imminently.

KSP Engel und Zimmermann has won the 2nd Prize at the international invited competition for a “Europe Tower”. The development area where the planned high-rise is to stand is located prominently at the entrance to the city of Sofia. The central and formal idea is to develop a simple and yet exciting skyscraper.

Tallest tower in Bulgaria will be built by 2010

Construction will shortly begin on Bulgaria's tallest office tower in the capital city, Sofia. Europe Tower, a 180m fully-glazed office tower designed by German architects HPP, was unveiled in October last year at the Expo Real Estate Fair in Munich, Germany. Europe Tower was commissioned by German investors ECE Projektmanagement as part of their Europe Park retail development in Sofia and will offer 40,000 sq m of leasable office space across 40 floors.

ECE, in partnership with Advance Properties, are transforming a former industrial site in the capital into a new city quarter with Europe Park at the centre as Bulgaria's largest retail development with 70,000 sq m of shopping potential. The new quarter will hold 25,000 car parking spaces and be accessible to over 1.1 million people in Sofia.

ECE are currently handling a further 26 office developments and 27 retail developments worldwide. While Europe Tower is 47m short of ranking in the 100 tallest buildings in the world, according to their website ECE hope that Europe Tower can act as Bulgaria's 'landmark seen from afar'. Construction is due to be complete in 2010.

Last week at the Expo Real in Munich, Georgi Domuschiev, Managing Director of Advance Properties, and Alexander Otto, Chairman of the board of ECE, unveiled a model of Europe Tower Sofia. The office tower, with its 40 stories and a height of over 180 meters, will be the highest structure in Bulgaria and thus will become the new landmark of the bustling capital.

Europe Tower is a major part of the Europe Park Sofia which will emerge in the heart of the city on a former industrial site. It will be built together with the Europe Center, which will offer approx. 70,000 m² of retail space and thus be one of the biggest inner city shopping gallery of Sofia.

Europe Park Sofia is being realized by the following partners: ECE Projektmanagement, European market leader in shopping centres, GTM-Angel Balevski EAD, Balkancar Sredez AD and Advance Properties Ltd., one of the biggest real estate players in Bulgaria.

GTM – Angel Balevski EAD acquired through the privatization process in Bulgaria Balkancar Sredez AD in 2006 and attracted as a strategic partner for the realization of the above men-tioned ambitious targets 'Advance Properties' Ltd.

Der Entwurf der Partnerschaft ging Anfang Juni 2007 als Sieger aus einem internationalen Wettbewerb hervor. Die Aufgabe bestand in der städtebaulichen Integration des „Europe Towers“ in den „Europe Park Sofia“, der im Bezirk Vitosha als neues urbanes Zentrum der Hauptstadt entstehen soll. Der 40-geschossige Büroturm, mit Luxusappartements ab der 32. Etage, wird mit einer Fläche von 40.000 m2 BGF das höchste Bauwerk Bulgarien sein und wurde von HPP daher als skulpturaler Solitär, als neues signifikantes Wahrzeichen für die boomende Metropole entworfen. Mit dem Bau soll 2008 begonnen werden, die Fertigstellung ist für das Jahr 2010 vorgesehen.

Nilix, мисля, че темата трябва да се прекръсти на "Europe Park Sofia", за да може в нея да се пускат ъпдейти както на Европа тауър (ох, дано стане, дано, дано, дано !!! ), така и на Европа център (молът), а и евентуално на другите сгради, защото все пак идеята е да се построят и други жилищни и офис сгради по-нататък. И по-добре е да не се пише "Europa tower", защото истинското име на проекта е "Europe tower". Надявам се, че в този форум създателят на темите може да им променя заглавието. Не съм отварял тема тук и не знам дали става...

Not for sure yet, but ECE was going to sell the project. Now they decide to make it (maybe they still search or already found some co-investitor). That's for sure! Now it depends to Petar Dikov to give permission for the tower.

I was always pretty sure that once a relatively conservative construction/development company like ECE said they were building a tower, it was for real... Not the good'ol Bulgarian bag of tricks where magical skyscrapers are promised but instead you get a hole in the ground. Anyway, I see this tower as the popping of the cherry. Once built, Sofia will no longer be a skyscraper virgin and thereby other companies are sure to follow. Plus I expect this tower to not have any vacancies as it will automatically be considered the most prestigious place to have an office and/or luxury apartment. This itself will stimulate other developers to go ahead with bigger/taller projects such as this one.

BTW guys if the building is 209m tall with the spire, then its official height will be just that... 209m!!! So shouldn't the height figures in the title of the thread be changed? Anyways, if COD's information is correct, than we have to take the spire into account no matter what. Official is official! No more talk of 178m boys and girls, we're going to have a tower that's more than 2/3 of the way to a supertall... I say from now on we only discuss its official height so as to rub it in as much possible to the rest of the Balkaners. Not bad!

PS: If Dikov says "NO", I'm hiring a chalga prince (the kind who has a shaved head, a thick neck, a plastic bleached blonde girlfriend and an AK-47) to take care of him.

Ahm...I think for first skyscraper in Sofia...with will be like out of place,but I believe in the next years,some1 will announce more projects for it,so I think(AM I WRONG,SOMEONE FROM SOFIA TELL PLS?) that will became maybe the most prosperity region in SF

Напълно сте прави petet и bgrs.
Доколкото се сещам Акрополиса трябваше да има 4 небостъргача, мол и паркинг за 11 800 автомобилал. Единия от небостъргачите ще е 35 етажен а другите три ще са 40-45 етажни. Последната информация, която имам е че комплекса вече се строи.
