why aren't they doing island platforms for Line 2?
I hope they don't go ahead and do bathroom tile for the platform walls, as those pix above seem to suggest

Good progress!
It's a pleasure to follow this construction.
I'm just a bit disappointed with the station design. After all this money spent on metro they could put a little bit more into finishing.
Serdika looks good, why couldn't this new stations look a bit like that? Also st. Kliment is nice.
Hemus has something interesting in appearance but pink color gives it "Barbie tribute" look. Others are not a bad color match but they resemble convenient stores.
I hope that those station designs are subject to change at least a bit.

Yes, the regular ticket is 1.00 lev (~0.50 euro), just like for the other means of public transport in Sofia.

Is ticketing integrated for encouraging transfers between buses/metros?

We have tickets for both underground and overground transports, but it is not commonly used. However this year a special electronic system will be implemented not only in the trams and trolleybuses as it is now, but in the buses and the metro too. Basically, by the end of this year we'll have an integrated ticketing system

As for the stations' design.. Most of the users in SSC don't like it. And yes, it looks like a bathroom

I kinda like the "bathroom" design. "Less" is sometimes better then "more", anyway lets wait for reality, not renders...

Side platforms are cheaper. We are more concerned that stations may turn out to have been done a bit short.

Yes, stations look a bit like bathrooms(and even like swimming pools)but tiles are easiest to clean and maintain. For example, CEO of "Metropoliten"(the company that runs the underground in Sofia)said to one fellow forumer in a meeting that cleaning "metal dust" from Serdika costs 20 000leva(10 000euro) each time it is done.

Few pictures from construction of Serdika station for the second line done by FloatingShift:

Why did they choose to built the two stations in the direction to the airport instead of concentrating on the line going south?

They want to concentrate on the extension to the airport because the EC said that it will be more willing to allocate funds for it. Hopefully, after 2014 construction would start on both the southern and the northern extension of Line 1, or in other words the one to the Airport and in Mladost.

Sorry to say this, but those station designs in the beginning of the page, are so 80's and look boring as hell...

Why are there only women on these renderings? Are men not allowed to use Sofia's subway?
