Percentage, very few! That was ironic, by the way...

Nothing unusual. The TBM is working fine.

No doubt about that. But a TBM's normal place of appearance is the ground while drilling a tunnel. This one is being pulled through a station structure, or what?

Russian Company Wins Bid for Sofia Metro Trains

March 22, 2011

Since it first opened doors in 1998, the Sofia subway has used only Metrovagonmash trains.

The Russian Metrovagonmash is the wining bidder in the public procurement tender for the delivery of trains for the Sofia metro.

The Russian plant, located in Mytishchi, near Moscow, will deliver 18 trains of three cars each. The cars are from the 81-740/741 "Rusich" series.

The information was reported in Russian media Tuesday.

The other participant in the tender has been the Spanish company CAF.

Since it first opened doors in 1998, the subway in the Bulgarian capital has used only Metrovagonmash trains. It now has 85 cars.

The Russian company has also delivered trains for the subways in Moscow, Kazan, Budapest, Warsaw, and Prague.

March 29 is the deadline for the other bidder to contest the results. After that, the winner will be announced officially.

The price offers were between BGN 78 and 88 M, a representative the Sofia municipal company Metropolitan says.

Do you know what were the financial offers for each bid? I though Siemens was going to win. They've got some nice new models of trains. And what about Bombardier's bid? Thanks.

PS: Where will the trains be assembled?

From the text it looks like only MWM and CAF bid on the tender.

Oh, now I saw that. But AFAIK Siemens and Bombardier have also placed their bids.

Update from the construction of second metro diameter in Nadezhda R.D.:

Are you sure you are not confusing Sofia with Warsaw? I think Siemens and Bombardier didn't participate at all.

It's a shame that the Metrovagonmash trains will not be a standard gauge version of the 81-760.

Oh, now I get it. I had a discussion with BGPatriot a few months ago and he mentioned the Siemens trains at some point when talking about this tender, that's why I thought Siemens took part in this tender.

I guess MVM had best chances anyhow because the Sofia metro system already operates them for some years AFAIK and it's cheaper to do maintenance for the same trains than for various types.

BTW: I like the interior of the MVM - quite cosy I must say. The exterior is the standard metro metal looks which I also like best.

PS: Bucharest Metro will also run a tender this year for new trains in order to reduce the waiting times for the existing network and to replace the remaining old trains, but Bombardier is expected to win this one as well, since most of the network is Bombardier Movia now (about 44 trains).

I guess I may have made a mistake, because I also remember reading this somewhere...

It turns out that I'm mistaken. Sorry, guys, but the information about the tender was scarce(not like the one for the motorways tenders) and the Sofia's underground threads are one of the biggest and most active places in the bulgarian section, polluted with constant arguments, disussions, paintings, schemes and a russian metro-lover guy who is really keen on convincing us into believing that MVM are gods and their production-ambrosia.

So, besides MVM and CAF who submited offers, other 11 companies have "shown interest"/maybe bought documents/ with Siemens posting only a letter with content known only by the tender commission.

Would it be in poor taste to insert an "at least it's not Ansaldobreda" comment?
