This is a ghost station. It's planned to become operational when a new train station is built on the surface.

Sofia Metro Company Opens Public Procurement for 3 New Stations
September 19, 2012 Photo by BGNES Metropoliten EAD has announced a public procurement for the construction of three new stations along Sofia's first metro line. The three new subway stations are to be part of a planned 2.7 km extension of the first line reaching up to Business Park Sofia in the Mladost residential district. Although the announcement does not specify an estimated value, the project is expected to be implemented using the EUR 55 M saved from the project for the extension of the same line from the Tsarigradsko Shosse Blvd – Inter Expo Center station to Sofia Airport under the Transport Operational Program plus no less than EUR 25 M in co-financing from the Sofia Municipality and the state budget. The project is to be completed by the beginning of 2015. The project has been divided into two sections which will be built by different contractors. The first section is 1550 m long and includes two subway stations, one at the Alexander Malinov Blvd and the Andrey Lyapchev Blvd and one behind the HIT store. The second section is 1070 m long with one subway station at the crossing of the Sofia ring road and Samar Str. The second stretch also includes an underground parking lot with a capacity of 80 vehicles. Bidders are to fie documents by November 12, when the bid opening is to take place. Meanwhile, the construction of the subway section from the Tsarigradsko Shosse Blvd to Sofia Airport is to start in the next three days. The section is about 5 km long and includes 4 subway stations. In end-August, 11 new stations of the second metro diameter were opened, connecting Sofia's Nadezhda residential district to the Cherni Vrah Blvd http://www.novinite.com/view_news.php?id=143365 ![]() G.I.* - Graf Ignatiev/Popa station The third line of Sofia Metro ready in 2018 The project will be finished next year, said the director of "Metropolitan" Project third metro line in the capital will be made within the next year, and its implementation should be completed by 2018. Sofia adds one more station by the end of 2013
A very good and unexpected announcement came today in Sofia, as adding of the ghost station Modernoto predgradie (between stations Obelya and Slivnitsa in the left upper corner of the map) on line M1 was made public. This station is very important since it will be a connection between the metro network and the suburban trains heading towards the western suburbs and towns of Sofia. This station was built more than a decade ago, but things were stuck because a new train station has to be added first for the need of the Bulgarian State Railways services. Without this suburban railway station, the metro station doesn’t make good sense since it is situated in a low-density populated area. Now people from the BDZ (Bulgarian State Railways) announce that their station will be opened by the end of 2013.
![]() This is a very optimistic and positive development since previously it was said that this station will remain closed for the next decade or so. Together with this station, by the beginning of 2015 Sofia should get 9 more stations (8 on line M1 and 1 on line M2). http://www.monitor.bg/article?id=359401 |

Finally, Sofia officials has done a good stuff with metro. Obelya is a terminus station with tracks at the same level in the same platform hall for both lines afaik. How it works for both lines?

![]() Actually line 1 & 2 are not separate at this moment. There is one long line with 2 routes: Tsarigradsko Shose-James Bouchier & Mladost 1-Slivnitsa. When the extensions to Sofia Airport and to Mladost 4 are built, the routes will be Sofia Airport-James Bouchier & Mladost 4-Slivnitsa. source (Bulgarian only): http://metropolitan.bg/bg/schedule/type/2.html

For instance if I'm in Konstantin Velichkov station and I wanna go to Obelya or Nadezhda I should be attentive because there are trains which goes to Slivnitsa, which is not good way for me, and I have to wait the train to James Bourcher. Ok, but that means that the ipotetic (I mean ipotetic because actually is only one metro line) terminus of M1 is Slivnitsa not Obelya. Why the maps represent that Obelya is the last station of M1? Or this is for the future when I suppose there will be two separate lines with two braches (Mladost/Airport-Obelya, and M2 also separate with 2 branches nortward)

Thanks!
Indeed Sofia’s metro construction is one of the best-managed projects in Bulgaria. This is partly because the director of Metropoliten Sofia (Mr. Stoyan Bratoev) is very ambitious. ![]() So yesterday the construction started to link station Tsarigradsko Shose and Sofia Airport via the settlement Druzhba. 4 stations and one railway station for transfer to national rail services to Plovdiv, Burgas and Istanbul along this 5 km long segment are going to be build. A great looking modern station in Druzhba is announced (the design was chosen on an international competition), as well as a grand station at the Airport covered by a glass roof. Apart from this 5 km long segment, the tenders for the southern brunch of line M1 to settlement Mladost 4 and Sofia Business Park were closed and we wait till Q1 next year when the start of construction is announced. This will be a 2,8 km long segment with 3 stations running below the main boulevard Aleksandyr Malinov. Both segments are scheduled to be put into operation at the end of 2014 or beginning of 2015, when additional 90 000 passengers daily are going to be attracted to the system. A tender for 10 new trains for the need of this two lines was announced with Metrovagonmash being the only bidder (too low price for western manufacturers, so nobody is surprised). Currently we have around 50 trains in use. As far as the line M2 is concerned, enlargement of the line Is planned in near future by about 1,5 km and one station to Hladilnika. A firm is currently making the project and we hope that there will be enough time by the end of this programme period to start the construction. The complete project for line M3 (made by our Czech friends from METROPROJEKT Praha) is due to be finished next year so the tender can be announced in 2014 finishing this 18 kilometre long line by 2018. Here is a map covering all current projects regarding Metro Sofia: ![]()
