It is possible that the whole line to the airport opens in 2012 ot early 2013 whereas the construction of all the stations but 4 is in progress. The last section of 4 stations is the easiest one and half of it passes through unbuilt areas. Another section of 4 lines that passes through one of the densely build-up areas of the city (NAdezhda) would be completed for 2 years (2010-2012).

There was some inaccuracy on the scheme description regarding Stage II and Stage III of MD1 , which i think are fixed now. Daily ridership data seems to be wrong ,too so i cut it.

Sofia opens long-delay subway, 30 years after starting works
7 September 2009 Agence France Presse Sofia on Monday opened the full stretch of its sole subway line, 30 years after groundbreaking construction work in 1979. Separate shorter sections of the line, running south and west from the city centre to its most crowded neighbourhoods, had opened in 1998 and May this year. The missing two-station 2.3-kilometre downtown link between the two sections was delayed but finally opened at 5:00 am (0300 GMT) Monday, authorities said. It will allow 180,000 people to travel between Mladost and Lyulin in just 20 minutes, while ground transport between the two quarters still takes hours in heavy traffic. Prime Minister and former Sofia mayor Boyko Borisov was scheduled to officially open the line Monday. But the ceremony was postponed as the country observed a day of nationwide mourning for 15 Bulgarians who drowned over the weekend in a boat accident on neighbouring Macedonia's Lake Ohrid. By 2012, Sofia authorities plan to build another line and have a total of 27 stations over 31 kilometres (19 miles), compared to the current 14 stations. Sofia, which has an estimated population of over two million people, is the first Bulgarian city to have a subway. Plans for the underground date back to 1967. They were approved by the government in 1977 and construction work started in 1979. Financing problems, however, delayed the project which aims to relieve heavy traffic in the city centre where whole stretches of road are almost permanently jammed on weekdays. |

Besides the southern end of line 2 is under construction to James Baucher, and not to Hladilnika.
