Isloo to open its doors for 4 new cinemas

The federal government in order to provide quality entertainment place for the movie lovers of federal capital has decided to open up four new cinemas.

Scores of film-starved Islamabadities have been deprived of cinema movies after the closure of the three cinema halls in Islamabad Nafdec I, Nafdec II and Melody.

The residents in order to enjoy a good movie on a big screen had no choice but to go to nearby twin city Rawalpindi’s cinepax.

Two years back a project of Cinepax in the federal capital, a joint venture between Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the Cinepax cinema was started on 10 acres of land. The Cinepax was to contain a five-screen cinema with a setup of food courts, shopping mall and health club but the project went into doldrums due to the law and order situation in the federal capital and the investors expressed their reservations over the project.

Now again in view of great public demand the federal government has decided to construct four new cinemas and initial work has been started in this regard.

THE CDA should not be using tax money for movie theatres

plus the centaurus already has movie theatres inside

they need to worry about giving the residents pure drinking water and tap water

CDA to use Park Enclave’s money on other projects

The CDA Board on Friday allowed utilisation of money collected from allottees of the Park Enclave on projects other than the posh housing scheme, which was launched on Park Road in July last year but the development activity was yet to start there.

The CDA Board meeting chaired by Chairman Farkhand Iqbal decided that the utilisation of money lying in CDA accounts was internal matter of the authority. The decision was taken at a time when the civic body had already spent a considerable amount from the money collected from the allottees.

The board members opined that the CDA would be able to generate sufficient from previous auction and upcoming auction of commercial and residential plots which could be utilised on development of Park Enclave.

The board meeting also allowed monatisation of transport facility for CDA’s civil servants working in BPS-20 and above.

The board also okayed upgradation of post of chief photographer from BPS-17 to BPS-18. The upgraded post would be filled through approval from the Department Promotion Committee (DPC).

The meeting also okayed non objection certificate (NoC) to the Gulberg Housing Scheme in Koral Village.

Khanna — A Bridge to Divide

Normally, bridges are made to unite communities and areas. However, Khanna Bridge and surrounding areas present a totally different picture the moment one gets off well-kept lanes of Islamabad Expressway. Since no VIP ever uses this bridge, except for when fear of stone-pelting looms from protesters at Faizabad Flyover, ordinary commoners have to undergo tortuous ditches and mounds of mud and filth, which has hardened into stony gravel.

Connecting roads to all sides of the bridge, which are all single, have been encroached upon by fruit hawkers and Suzuki vans parked by drivers at their will. It will be a disgrace to English language to call whatever portions of passages are left for daily commuters as ‘roads’. Since the day these roads were built few years back and contractors were paid off irrespective of the quality of their work, no one has bothered to return and maintain these connecting roads.
These literally impassable narrow undulating mountains of filth and gravel must have broken many poor wage earners vehicles in which they commute and must have caused thousands hours of delay to ordinary passengers, but who cares. They are no VIP’s and do not deserve smooth thoroughfare or easier right of passage. While Rawalpindi Administration was always known for limited capacity for development due to meagre resources vis-a-vis large area, CDA appears to have even fallen below the lowest standard of their neighbours.

While there is lot of money for everyone in a grandiose new project like a major flyover, this is only peanuts involved in small rehabilitation project like this one. In its own time in many years, a very grand flyover will also be planned and executed at Khanna Bridge. But till that time, all living around or using this bridge will keep cursing their luck or someone in whose responsibility it is to ensure repair of roads around this bridge while traversing this bridge and its approach roads. The remaining of this area is in a shambles for years does not reflect the failure of a single person, it shows the breakdown of entire chain of command connected with providing facilities to the common man. It also shows how even our common man has become immune to usurpation of his rights and privileges, they will go thousand times around a pot-hole, but far from doing anything to fill it on self-help basis, not do anything even to draw the attention of concerned authorities.

I'm only going to buy or invest in prebuilt properties. I've heard that www.myuaeproperty.com list properties from all agents - but I'll only think of buying again when this whole mess is cleared up. Keep the pics coming in. Thanks to all.

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to build an international cricket stadium and an academy in Islamabad.

PCB, on Monday, was allotted 35 acres of land by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) for the establishment of a stadium in the Shakarparian area of the capital, a press release said.

Both bodies signed a memorandum of understanding, in the presence of PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf, CDA Chairman Farkhand Iqbal and Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Task Force for Islamabad Faisal Sakhi Butt.

“The international cricket stadium will be an added feature in the capital’s modern development,” Butt said.

The stadium and the academy will be geared towards providing better training facilities to the locals.

“This region has a great talent for cricket and by establishing an academy, we will aim to nurture and polish that talent,” Ashraf told reporters.

Ashraf vowed to make the stadium central to the training and grooming of cricketers from not only Islamabad, but adjoining regions such as Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Federally Administered Tribal Areas and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

According to the agreement, CDA will receive a revenue share of 30 per cent from every national and international match, while the remaining 70 per cent will go to the PCB.

Currently, there are no PCB-owned cricket stadiums or academies in the capital. The Diamond Club Ground is used by the regional team (Federal Areas) during domestic tournaments. Rawalpindi, however, is home to the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, which has hosted eight Test matches and 23 one-day internationals.

CDA to build underpasses for pedestrians

After facing severe criticism from the residents over losses of several lives on high-speed avenues, the city fathers have woken up to build pedestrian underpasses in the city to ensure walkers’ safety.

The Capital Development Authority has decided to build two pedestrian underpasses under the Jinnah Avenue in Blue Area.

The CDA has invited Expression of Interest from the companies to build pedestrian underpasses.

The underpasses will be constructed near Saudi-Pak Tower and OGDCL building as both the sites, having Jinnah Super and Super Markets nearby respectively, witness massive pedestrian movement.

Besides a pedestrian crossing, the underpasses would also be used for commercial activity as CDA would also construct shops underground as a permanent source of revenue generation.

The tentative estimated cost of the individual project is to the tune of Rs75 million to Rs85 million that is designed to have shockproof solid structure besides having provision of commercial activities.

In order to minimise disruption of traffic flow at proposed sites, the CDA has planned to execute the work using pre-fabricated technology or tunnel form technology.

Earlier, the CDA has also decided to construct the same underpasses close to Abpara Market but the security agencies had objected as the facility could prove a security hazard and the project was shelved.

Currently, the CDA has installed a pedestrian signal near Saudi-Pak Tower but it would be removed as part of its plan to upgrade the avenue as signal-free. Work on the project has already been initiated.

According to Islamabad Police, around two or three hit-and-run incidents take place in Islamabad with majority of them on main avenues like Islamabad Expressway, Kashmir Highway and Jinnah Avenue.

Last week, also a pedestrian and a taxi-driver lost their lives in an accident at Zero Point but the city administration as well as the Islamabad Traffic Police is turning a blind eye.

Talking to APP, Prime Minister’s Task Force Chairman Faisal Butt said in an endeavour to make Islamabad one of the most beautiful capitals of the world, the lives of pedestrians cannot be put at risk.

He quoted the prime minister’s idea of not turning Islamabad as city of elite rather it should accommodate all classes of society equally.

PCB, CDA sign MoU to construct cricket stadium in capital

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to construct an international standard 50,000 sitting capacity cricket stadium in the capital city. The PCB and CDA had reached an agreement in this regard and CDA had provided 35 acres piece of land unconditionally to the cricket board. PCB chairman Chaudhry Zaka Ashraf promised to construct a state of the art stadium in capital in one-year time which would be the biggest stadium in country.

An MOU signing ceremony was held in Islamabad on Monday in which PCB chief Zaka, PCB COO Subhan Ahmed, Governing Body member Shakil Sheikh, CDA chairman Farkhand Iqbal, Islamabad Task Force chairman Faisal Saki Butt and other high officials were present. Talking to media persons after the ceremony, PCB chairman said: “There was an urgent need of constructing an international standard cricket ground in the federal capital since long and the proposed plan was in doldrums for the last four years. President Asif Ali Zardari, who is also the Patron-in-Chief of PCB, played a key role in resolving the issue and we are really grateful to him for showing personal interest and finally allotting us a piece of land in capital.”

Zaka said the stadium would be constructed in one-year time frame, and with the income from international matches and sponsorships, 30 percent would be given to CDA while the remaining 70 percent would go to the PCB account. “All the expenses of constructing the stadium would be bored by the board getting land for construction of two international grounds in only six months time is by all means a great achievement of the board. A cricket academy will also be inaugurated in capital where boys from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Fata, AJK and Islamabad will get a lot benefit.”

Commenting on Bangladesh teams’ refusal to tour Pakistan, he said all the arrangements were made in this regard but it was a big setback. “It is now past, we are in talks with other international teams in this regard and during the recent ICC meeting, India showed sign of improvement as far as revival of Pak-India cricket ties are concerned. We will not disclose the names of countries at this stage as the hidden hands that sabotage the Bangladesh team tour will once again ruin our plans but we would disclose the facts at suitable time.”

Talking to the media, Farkhand and Faisal said: “The stadium will add to the beauty of the capital and the residents will be provided excellent facilities to witness their heroes performing in front of them. The new stadium will be a milestone for the promotion of cricket and we will make Islamabad a hub of sporting activities and allocate lands to different federations in this regard as well.”
