LUANDA | Projects & Construction

Angola, off the Western coast of Africa, is expected to become the next big powerhouse of Africa. It's just now recovering from a Civil War that ended in 2002, and recent exploitation of natural resources has brought tremendous wealth to this previously war-torn nation. Recently, the Angolan government is discovering many ways to diversify their economy, so they won't be so dependent on oil, and that's where many of these projects come into play.

Luanda it's capital, is a large city of over 5,000,000 people. The city is the center of a large economic boom in Angola, so a lot of large companies are investing in the City. Many new developments include numerous Low/Mid/High Rise Buildings, land reclamation, new highways, slum replacement, seaport construction, a new international airport, and more. The city is on the move, so to check up on more, don't hesitate to visit the Angola Forum.

Nice update. Just hope the ordinary people will benefit as well. Any industrial projects like factories etc.?

IMO luxury retail and mega museum complexes should be the last step of a national reconstruction.

Thanks. Speaking of that, there's a lot of housing in the pipeline for the many people who live in the make-shift shanty towns around Luanda. Here's an article explaining one of the many housing developments for the ones who may not be able to afford most of the above. This one is most recent, and was translated from Portuguese (sorry for the crappy translation).

Quote:

Habitation Launched Social Habitation project of Kilamba Kiaxi

Luanda - the first phase of the launching of projecto of Social Habitation of the Kilamba Kiaxe, that foresees the construction of 710 buildings for 160 a thousand people, happened today in Luanda.

The Angolan minister of the Administration of the Territory, Virgilio de Fontes Pear tree, represented the President of the Republic, José Eduardo dos Santos, in this event, occurred in the Commune of the Camama, Kilamba Kiaxe. The buildings to be raised in an area of eight squared Kilometers are five, nine and eleven floors and perfazem 20,000 apartments.

Projecto is about one that it includes centers commercial, primary and secondary garden-of-infancy, schools, an administrative area and others for the leisure. They are contemplated in projecto, the installation of services of firemen, squadrons of policy, fuel bombs, among others enterprises, in an area of implantation of 8,8 squared quilómetros. Other atinentes data technician to projecto, the one that the Angop had access, report the existence of installation of main avenues, secondary and tertiary, with a total fulfilment of 429 quilómetros, “completely woody, forming an ecological corridor”.

Project social of the Kilamba Kiaxe, that will have to be concluded in 36 months, will have an independent system of treatment of water, electricity and telecommunications. The contract of the first phase of this project was celebrated the 14 of November of 2007. (GRN) has as responsible the Cabinet of National Reconstruction and the main entity for its execution is the Chinese multinational, Society Contractor The International (CITIC). About 500,000 inhabitants they will be able to benefit of this project, when two posterior phases will be concluded the remains.
There's a lot more news about this and many more projects like this in the National Reconstruction thread. You will find many more articles explaining the real reconstruction from the ground up.

The Novo Sambizanga youtube video - a new uptown area for Luanda also talks about social housing, schools and other social welfare for the people that live in the area, so they'll create a new area with four quarters just for the poor. I guess a bit away from the rich.

I hope it keeps going like that. I'm personally interested in it's development, as I had some job offers to work there, still waiting for a better one.

Yes, I am also excited about the new quarters for people who currently live in the Musseque's around Luanda.

Good luck on finding a better job in Luanda, it probably won't be long until a better one comes around, a lot of investment is pouring into this country, and the amount of jobs flowing into this country is simply amazing, so it won't be long!

Torre Maianga ~ Approved ~ 16 Fl.
This particular building's shell was actually constructed in 1975, but when the civil war broke out, the building was never completed, so it's shell sat abandoned for over 30 years, until recently it was approved to be completed.

Not really, but there is a small Cuban minority in the Cuando Cubango Province, who represent the 5% of that province who speak Spanish. Also, Torre can be Tower in Portuguese too.
