LUANDA | Projects & Construction
Angola, off the Western coast of Africa, is expected to become the next big powerhouse of Africa. It's just now recovering from a Civil War that ended in 2002, and recent exploitation of natural resources has brought tremendous wealth to this previously war-torn nation. Recently, the Angolan government is discovering many ways to diversify their economy, so they won't be so dependent on oil, and that's where many of these projects come into play.
![]() ![]() Luanda it's capital, is a large city of over 5,000,000 people. The city is the center of a large economic boom in Angola, so a lot of large companies are investing in the City. Many new developments include numerous Low/Mid/High Rise Buildings, land reclamation, new highways, slum replacement, seaport construction, a new international airport, and more. The city is on the move, so to check up on more, don't hesitate to visit the Angola Forum. Nice update. Just hope the ordinary people will benefit as well. Any industrial projects like factories etc.?
IMO luxury retail and mega museum complexes should be the last step of a national reconstruction.

Thanks. Speaking of that, there's a lot of housing in the pipeline for the many people who live in the make-shift shanty towns around Luanda. Here's an article explaining one of the many housing developments for the ones who may not be able to afford most of the above. This one is most recent, and was translated from Portuguese (sorry for the crappy translation).Quote:

The Novo Sambizanga youtube video - a new uptown area for Luanda also talks about social housing, schools and other social welfare for the people that live in the area, so they'll create a new area with four quarters just for the poor. I guess a bit away from the rich.
I hope it keeps going like that. I'm personally interested in it's development, as I had some job offers to work there, still waiting for a better one. |

Lot of interesting projects!
Really hope Angola can build up a strong economy in other areas than just the oil industry. |

Good luck on finding a better job in Luanda, it probably won't be long until a better one comes around, a lot of investment is pouring into this country, and the amount of jobs flowing into this country is simply amazing, so it won't be long! ![]() ~Construction Update Pictures~
Torre Maianga ~ Approved ~ 16 Fl. This particular building's shell was actually constructed in 1975, but when the civil war broke out, the building was never completed, so it's shell sat abandoned for over 30 years, until recently it was approved to be completed. ![]() ![]() *Picture Courtesy of Barragon* Edificio Zimbo Tower ~ Under Construction ~ 21 Fl. ![]() ![]() *Picture Courtesy of Skytrax* Luxury Retail and Office Development ~ Under Construction ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() *Pictures Courtesy of AAPMBerlin* Kinaxixi Complex ~ Under Construction ~ 20 Fl. ![]() ![]() *Picture courtesy of Hammelkar* For more information, don't hesitate to visit the Angola Forum. Thanks.~Construction Update Pictures~
The soon tallest building in Angola is under construction, but we don't have a render for it, just photo's that were taken by AAPMBerlin, that we greatly appreciate. This is just one of the photo's, but there are many more. ![]() ![]() ![]() *Courtesy of AAPMBerlin* Torre Ambiente ![]() ![]() *Courtesy of AAPMBerlin* *Thanks to everyone in the Angola forum, and elsewhere who contributed to the discovery of some of these projects, and the photos of the progress.* Last edited by Kwame; September 15th, 2008 at 04:41 AM. Not really, but there is a small Cuban minority in the Cuando Cubango Province, who represent the 5% of that province who speak Spanish. Also, Torre can be Tower in Portuguese too. Thanks.
