I just read on wouldarchitecturenews.com (on a report from December 2013)that Broadway Malyan has won an international design competition to deliver a vision for the transformation of Luanda, the Capital of Angola.

The report said that the Luanda metropolitan district, which is currently home to almost six million inhabitants, may accommodate 13 million by the 2030s. Also from the report: "Over the next 12 months the practice’s multi-disciplinary team will analyse the city’s geography, socio-economic conditions, morphology, infrastructure and environmental context to prepare a sensitive and sustainable long-term urban renewal and growth plan."

Seems to be a lot of growth and some nice buildings. What is powering the growth in Angola?

Luanda is a beautiful city, a lot of the buildings are still colonial. The architecture is not the best but its improving and a lot of the new buildings coming up are world class

Right, I was just talking about the the current highrises tho. Some are pretty good, and some are cheap and plain ugly. Those will probably get replaced by high-end building after like 25 years from now.

They might be ugly but nothing is cheap in Luanda lol, I think in the next 10 years most of the old buildings would be knocked down!

I hope they don't destroy all the buildings and just renovate them, because a lot of the buildings have character and are part of Angola's history. I'm sure the architects and engineers of Angola can find a way to blend the old and the new, just like they do in London.

I can not wait to see what the skyline will look like in 10 years. I showed the skyline to my mates, and they asked me if I went America or something hahaha. Viva Angola
