That's what the hysterical people who live on Via S. Gabriele suggested after their street became busy with traffic again. Apparently living there now is hell on earth and even their clothes, drying outside, are gray from the traffic
Looks like they never saw a normal city road before. But now that parking has been limited to only one side, the road is great and wide enough. One thing tho - wish the Italian side would take down that boot on the border already, they don't seem to care much, that's untill some old lady going home from a casino hits it, like so many sidewalks here

yeah... I don't get these people living in that road. just because the road used to be deadend, doesn't mean it would be forever. it's a wide road, not a narrow historical one. so they should shut up.
have you ever gone to Italy by Kostanjevica hill? crazy huh? the path in the bush lol. I wish they poured down a little stripe of asphalt, and put up some signs. it's a nice path, unknown to tourists. should be a pedwalk from "palazzo Attems" to the sanctuary.

there used to be a small chapel on the italian side, but now it's a private house i guess. from the italian side, it was the pilgrims road to the sanctuary. what I love in our city is that you can go in 5 minutes walking from a busy street to some hill with cows too ![]() by the way, there's an utopia which always fascinated me: "Greater GO" as a new European federal capital? I know it's very little. but look at maps: this area is the only in Europe where all 3 main cultures mix (germanic, slavic, lathin). the exact place would be around Tarvis and Kranjska Gora, but those are villages. while Gorizia/Gorica is a unique city REALLY on a border, with both slavic and lathin populations AND austrian heritage (all ancient buildings, name of noble families, etc - been under Wien since 1501, before Salzburg!) another pick would be Triest. sure bigger and more famous, but if I may say, where the hell do you put all Euro infrastructures? the city is narrow between Karst and sea, and still is NOT on a border... Gorizia still has a flat good area to build a whole new "city", it's north of Montesanto, left of Solkan. yes yes I know I'm just kidding, no way Europe would "move" in here, but just imagine!

pardon
Triest and Görz never have been part of Slovenia. nothing against this idea, I really like Slovenia, but... that's just a lie unfortunately. Slovenia, considering its current borders, is a modern entity. it finds roots mostly in the province of Krain, but also in southern Steiermark. of course now it includes about half of the province of Küstenland. but the difference is that this region has always had only two capital cities: Triest on local area, Wien on upper level. Slovenians were the main ethnic part, but still no more than 60% of total. the tradition and identity of Küstenland was: MIXTURE. you couldnt place Küstenland among the german, slavic or hungarian provinces of the Empire. it was one of the few completely mixed areas. friulians and italians mostly lived on the coastline and had majority in the cities. slovenians lived in the mountains and hillside. croatians in inner Istria. austrians were few and lived almost only in biggest cities. but most important, there was a high number of mixed-race people. because this was normal, there was not much ethnic fight. when italians invaded the Empire and conquered Küstenland, they started being racist. this worstened ethnic relations of course. and then, it went worst and worst with second world war and the crazy border cutting towns and villages. massive immigration from southern Italy and from Serbia, in order to interrupt historical ties between slavic and lathin people of area. therefore, this debate is unnecessary. let's go back to topic please

Greater Berlin = Großberlin/Groß-Berlin. I think Groß-Görz sounds best.

good news.
they will build a big roundabout by the border of CasaRossa/RoznaDolina (former name Rosental), on the italian side. right now, in order to reach Slovenia you must take a longer road passing around the vast parking area. it's impossible to reach Slovenia directly from via Alviano (and so center of city): the road coming out of border is one-way only in the last piece before crossroad. ![]() other funny thing: italians living in the northenmost part of the city and arriving by RA (raccordo autostradale, expressway link) from south, usually exit from that in Slovenia (Sempeter) and enter in Italy back after. this because they avoid Gorizia centre, which is usually busy with traffic. while on other side, many roads are 70 km/h.

^thank god about that roundabout.. that section is terrible, oneway here there, straight lane here right there
. Btw, dunno what the deal is with that stretch of road leading from Gorizia cementery towards Miren (Merna), there's the old (ex?) airport on one side and a couple of industrial buildings on the other, the road is straight, no curves and yet the speed limit is painful 50km/h.. seems like forever to go trough that and most of the time cops lurk on drivers there.. there should be at least 60 if not 70km/h limit..

![]() have you heard about those houses built in Italy by Slovenian firm, and sold on slovenian market? that's some interesting signal. I wonder if they have any problem living "abroad"... I mean bureaucracy and stuff.

higher speed limit requires better pavement of road, and so money. but most important, in Italy houses come before roads. this means that if there is just one private house on the way, they will make a fuss about not increasing the speed limit. because then, the house people would complain about having their own life "endangered by crazy racers" ![]() back to the Slovenians in Gorizia... I think they won't get italian citizenship. but still, they will live and possess a house in Italy. how does this work? who they will pay taxes to? garbage tax to Italy and job tax to Slovenia?

Yes. They will pay a lot of Slovenian taxes like they would live in Slovenia, except for services which are provided by Italy.
