Partiranno entro dicembre del 2009 i lavori di adeguamento della Villesse-Gorizia. La promessa arriva dall'assessore regionale alla Viabilità e sub commissario per la terza corsia dell'A4, Riccardo Riccardi.
Primo atto del commissario Renzo Tondo sarà la convocazione, per il 21 ottobre a Gorizia, la conferenza di servizi per il raccordo che dovrà avviare gli espropri. L'intervento richiederà un finanziamento di oltre 172 milioni di euro e avrà una durata di 1.095 giorni.

Basically, it means that they finally approved the transformation of Villesse-Gorizia road into a motorway. Effective works will start by december 2009, and should end by december 2012.

Villesse is not even in the Triest district... they did same thing with airport. everything built in Gorizia district, but named after Triest. mah!

The Provincia/Pokraijna of Gorizia is currently planning on a railway link between Villesse and Ljubljana, passing by Gorizia/NovaGorica.

This would mean to build up a line between Villesse and Gorizia, and then there are two options: serious investment on the NovaGorica-Sezana line OR building up a new line from NG to LJ straight eastwards (not going to Sezana or to Jesenice).

The project aims at transferring the trucks from the A4 to the railway, in order to lighten the incoming huge traffic on this link.

Keep in mind that the 3rd lane of the A4 will stop at Villesse, and not go until Triest. This because of the terrifying devastation of the nature, and its skyrocketing prices of construction. This means, 3 lanes per way from Venice to Villesse (completed within 2014), and then a choice for the driver to LJ:
- 2 lanes "classic" motorway going by Triest and Sezana
or
- 2 lanes "new" motorway going by Gorizia and Razdrto (slovenian side completed within 2009, italian side completed within 2012)

This means, everybody will pick the second option (much shorter) aside from people and trucks going to Triest or sorroundings.

Do you know, if the A4 will really be widened "just" to Villesse, b/c some sources, like this one, claim that it will be widened all the way to Gorizia. Also, from Mestre to Gorizia it's 110 km, from Mestre to Villesse just 90 or so kms, and articles mention 110 km. Though I think to Villesse is more than enough, maybe even just to Palmanova (A23). But it's not true that the route over Gorizia / Nova Gorica will be much shorter; just a few kms.

trust me, there will be 3 lanes per way between Mestre and Villesse. instead, the Villesse-Gorizia will have just 2 lanes per way, but in the context of a real motorway, with emergency lane and 130 km/h speed limit.

Yeah, it would still be widened all the way to Gorizia, but in a way that to Villesse it would be added a driving lane, and to Gorizia an emergency lane.

Starting this monday and ending before 20 december, italian authorities will finally demolish the border checkpoints (already demolished on the slovenian side). On 20 december, a joint celebration is planned to remember the first anniversary of slovenian membership in Schengen area.

It has been presented in Venezia the project for an innovative "shopping mall" in the center of Gorizia. The structure will be quite vast (for such an urban environment) and will take place between via S.Chiara and via Dante. The middle road, via Boccaccio, will become pedonal area. This mall will be different because will promote almost only local or quality food, thus incorporating the existing historical market. The other half of the structure will be built ex novo on the current void market parking place between via S.Chiara and via Boccaccio. An aerial walkway will join the two areas. Cafeterias will be opened inside. Cars will park underground, and there might be an entry on via Brass, which runs on the old path of Corno/Koren brook.

Local authorities of Friuli-Venezia-Giulia and western Slovenia will present before 1st december a request for financement to European Union. The ambitious project is to create a train link between NovaGorica, Gorizia, Ronchi airport, Trieste, Koper. Partly using existing railway, partly building new bits, the train won't be hi-speed (AV/AC) but will operate on a very frequent timetable. Further projects aim at building a new railway between NovaGorica and Ljubljana, in order to finally stop the embarassing isolation.
The price for the whole project is huge, but there are chances it might be accepted because it would be the first infrastructure built across EU borders which is meant for local transport and not high distances.
