great news, the track would be, of course, electrified, i hope... we need to get rid of at least some of old diesels... they're well beyond their time

I doubt this will happen. It may be embarrassing, but you have to admit that this new railway would go from Ljubljana to pretty much "nowhere". Sorry to express myself like that, but Nova Gorica is a town of only 20,000 inhabitants. It wouldn't matter, if it was on a transit rail corridor, but it isn't. You can add the population of Gorizia and get some 70,000 people, which is already more (and of course all the population along the railway). But, even the towns combined aren't terribly big, and even will all the Schengen stuff, cross-border movements are still quite limited. It's like that even in Benelux, with their almost-50-year free borders. Countries are still important. I'd instead improve the existing line(s) and introduce faster trains. After all we're talking about railway, which can't compete with road.

thing is, everyone in my region doubts there will ever be the famous Corridor 5 (high-speed railway from Spain to Hungary).

there are projects of course, and this train should run from Venezia to Triest to Ljubljana...

but look, they did not even start the work on the french-italian border. a Trenitalia manager has said that trains between Venezia and Triest are classified "C priority". this means, they will build Corridor5 here, when they will have money.

and with the current financial chrisis, this is even postponed. some people started thinking it would be better to build smaller railways and modernizing old ones instead. at least that could be done in a few years, without dramatic ecological damage (such as linking Triest and Koper to the Corridor5).

many other strongly proposed the high-speed railway to pass by Gorizia/NovaGorica, because of much easier topography and shorter path. but of course this has been rejected by portual authorities of Triest and Koper (which could have been connected with short, quick, freight-only trains).

my opinion?
there won't be any NG-LJ railway, and no highspeed train between Venezia and Ljubljana. at least until 2030.

Oh, so you're for the V. Corridor to run through Gorizia/Nova Gorica, and not Trieste. This of course changes the perspective. But I don't know what will be in the end.

this is what i found on trieste.rvnet.eu

Metropolitana leggera entro il 2017
14 Novembre 2008

Supernova and OBI are being built on Majske poljane, next to the three towers. Should finish in 2009.

29.750 m2 of com. space
7.400 m2 of cinema halls

It will incorporate some of the old station's landmarked buildings including the old train depots turned into a market and event space and the old water tower.

Supernova is a chain of shopping centres. Movies in Slovenia are subtitled except for some animated movies for children they are displayed usually as both synchronized and subtitled version. I am very happy that we have this because mostly a synchronized movie is totally ruined. No matter if it is a movie or a cartoon.

Good example are movies on german TV channels. Players lose their character

like when i saw x-Files on some german channel and Scully had deeper voice than Mulder
But Italians have great synchronizing skills, voices usually completely match the originals, as do the emotions. The only problem is, that the movie still isn't what it was meant to be in the original. Plus, most of them don't know squat of English, because they almost never hear it.

Gorizia Oggi

beware: it's not a new line. it's just a project to unify existing lines.

1) modernization of NovaGorica - Sezana line
2) improvements in the Koper-Triest area
2) new short track to Ronchi Airport (already close to line)
3) re-activation of Gorizia-NovaGorica line

and basically, that's all. a sort of railway circle, Gorizia-NG-Sezana-(Koper)-Triest-Monfalcone-airport-Gorizia.
