Easily the best venue in the park. Simply put, it is a beautiful building.

Depends on Games time/legacy. Hadid's Aquatic Centre is a wonder to behold inside even during Games time, which the majority will see around the world. The velodrome is just as good, but the interior does not have that extra wow factor about it. Exterior-wise obviously velodrome wins, but the sports aren't taking place on the outside.

It's true, but look at how often people take digs at the 2012 stadium because it has a simple and currently is bare without a wrap - the external is quite important too, naturally.

London really has nothing to worry about in terms of its external shots. People on here fret so much about it, fair enough it's an architecture forum so bound to, but the experts from broadcasters are paid to know these things that will make the London games the best yet in terms of how they look on TV and in photos. Believe me, you won't see the media centre centre-stage nor the Aquatic centre wings as the focal point of any shot. There's simply no point when it costs thousands of dollars for seconds of air time.

You'll get views of the velodrome but it wont be the main focus of the event.

@DarJoLe
I imagine the exteriors of the venues will be getting a little more than 2% air time to say the least. I remember the amount of times I saw the beijing water cube/birds nest on tv and I didn't really watch much of the games! Reporters/news teams from across the world I imagine will be talking right outside the venues(mainly the stadium) just as our BBC teams filmed and talked outside the birds nest- London and its olympic venues will be watched perhaps more than you think come games time. |

I too can picture Beijings Olympic Park layout in my head, from memory seeing it on TV.
There are lots of establishing shots, from helicopters etc. etc. |

But you've hit on exactly the point DJl was making. Broadcasters are selective in what they show. In Beijing they concentrated on what was the showstoppers of the Games - the olympic stadium, the aquatic stadium and the grand vista stretching from the Forbidden City. The reality of the mundaneness of many of the venues and the concrete coach park like public spaces was pushed aside for money shots and they'll do exactly the same for London - what this probably means is that the Velodrome and Orbit shall perhaps garner more coverage than intended at the expense of the Aquatics Centre and more will be made of the olympic park's greenery (any sign of sun and you can count on us English to bare a little flesh and have a picnic)

But this is a new approach to the Games, isn't it? It's about getting everyone involved so I would imagine (or hope!) that we'll get more park shots as there'll be more going on. Also as the stadium isn't all that much of an eye-catcher they'll probably scan the park more to show the beautiful setting than just concentrating on the 1 venue.
