Very similar indeed, but not quite the same.

Is the one in Belfast a proposal?, is it going to be built soon?

Did HOK Sport designed it too?

Greetings

not much from the park's project yet, the following article just mentions that the stadium is the central position of the whole project to rehab La Pastora Park.

We know by Mexican's papers that an ecological park will be build around the stadium where the Monterrey Zoo is located, also the rehabilitation of 7 kilometers of La Silla river, 80 acres of forests, and the construction of a Botanic Garden.

Around the Stadium, a hotel, and a shopping mall and new vehicle access

Kick-off for Mexican stadium

19 September 2008

HOK Sport has unveiled the first images of a new 50,000 capacity football stadium in Monterrey, Mexico.

The Estadio de Fútbol will be the new home for the Monterrey team, Los Rayados.

It has been designed to create an “intense atmosphere”, with a seating bowl that places spectators as close to the pitch as possible.

The stadium’s 55m-span cantilevered roof will protect the spectators from the elements, while overlapping sheet metal cladding references Monterrey’s industrial heritage.

Estadio de Fútbol will occupy a central position in the newly restored Parque La Pastora. This is located at the foot of the Cerro de la Silla mountain, the “saddle” shape of which also influenced the design of the stadium.

Haha, oh dear.

I don't like how one end is bigger than the other.

Doesn't seem practical, but it does give it some curves that you won't find on too many stadiums.

Does the uneven end make the stadium expandable?

On this case is very practical, if you read the stadium press release from HOK, you'll realized that the design was influenced by the mountain which is the symbol of Monterrey. Once inside, the view of the mountain will be simply spectacular, only people who have been in the city of mountains would know this...

HOK Sport wing unveils 'Armadillo' stadium

11 September, 2008

By Dan Stewart

New York-based MASS Studio designs metallic-clad 50,000-seat football stadium in Mexico

MASS Studio, the special project wing of architecture firm HOK Sport, has unveiled designs for a 50,000-seat armadillo-style stadium in Monterrey, Mexico.

The Estadio de Futbol sits at the foot of the Cerro de la Silla mountain, which MASS's architects said inspired the 55m cantilevered roof and metallic “armature” cladding.

Christopher Lee, MASS's senior principal and designer of the stadium, said: “The Estadio de Fútbol Monterrey will challenge the expectations of what a modern world-class football stadium can be. The stadium will be the most atmospheric football stadium in Latin America; the perfect football stadium.”

MASS works in parallel with HOK Sport to work on special projects and research and develop mass assembly buildings.

According to TV interviews with the project's president, they'll start the construction before this year ends. That was also said for the whole park project proposed together with the Estadio Monterrey.

These were preliminary renders of the stadium interiors sent to the press the day before the project was announced. Obviously we'll expect better ones hopefully soon.
