Oh this is ridicules! Dubai doesn’t need another supertall tower, or any of the other ones they’ve already built/are building! No one wants to buy homes in a full blown desert, and the county doesn’t have people to fill them! I'm going to laugh one day when all these towers feel old at once, since there are so many being built in a 15 year span. 30 years from now the whole city is going to look old at once, you'll be surprised how fast style and technology change.

Good luck with your prediction Nostradamus. : P

Anyway this is one of my favorite designs in the Emirate. Easily top 25 for me.

I like it's futuristic design.

I think that's exactly the point Onn was making Dark Matter. They all look futuristic now. Maybe that building style will be old-fashioned in 30 years.

Just because the buildings look futuristic now, doesn't mean that they will fit in perfectly in 30 years? you get it?

I wasn't saying that too Onn.

What I was saying, "Nostradamus" for was his idea that Dubai will be empty. It's a bold assumption.

About what's old, it's all down too opinion unless you can actually prove something is old. But there are some buildings (not many) from the 70's that look like they were built yesterday while some buildings are still built too look old.

Sometimes it just doesn't matter.

That makes perfect sense, thats why contemporary Chicago, NYC etc, completely urban wise "suck" today .

I think that Dubai will easily be able to reach its goal of 2.5 million in two decades or so. And it will serve an important purpose for the region.

And even if they would be empty, which they are not, that would hardly be bad for those that want to use them .

^

Great update!

I have to say that the design of this tower is just stunning!
It's even better than Burj Dubai IMO, and it's already one of my favorite supertalls worldwide...I'm sure that a building like this would become an automatic landmark in any city worldwide, except in Dubai because there're at least 4 other towers over 600m currently U/C or proposed.

What makes me wonder is that there's still demand for such huge projects even in the middle of a financial crisis like this...in Moscow, for example, the construction on Russia Tower has been stopped , and it seems that there won't be any new supertalls projects there for a long time...In Dubai, though, the economic crisis doesn't seem to have any effect on the local economy, and there still seems to be lots of demand for projects like this, and almost every week there seems to be a new supertall proposed in Dubai.

The economy growth for the UAE still will be 6,96 % (according to IMF: http://www.imf.org/external/pubs/ft/...NGDPD&grp=0&a= )
. (Though they say Russia's will be 7%, but I guess this isn't adjusted to the current oil-price levels)
Certainly it was a good idea for Dubai to diversify its economy , and so the falling oil-prices will have a much lesser impact on Dubai then it will on many of the other Gulf States.

Is this project a separate proposal from this one:

Yes, which is why you have (JG) in one title and (DIFC) in the other. JG stands for jumeirah gardens, the entire project which is on hold and more than likely never to be built.
