Stadiums that can also be used for track and field?

Stade De France is mainly a football/rugby stadium but can, when needed, take away some of it's stands to make way for tracks.

Are there any other stadiums in the world with this ability?

Despte the danger of repeating my self I'll post the Greek ones. And BTW a few questions first:
I read that British stadiums are mostly football/ragby only. Is this the case in most other EuropeianLatin American stadiums/teams? I ask because they are considered viewer un-freandly. In Greece apart from very few exceptions, most have athletic tracks around the pitch. This is beacuse they were build by the state and then given to the teams. Is this usual in other countries, and do you think it is necessary to have an athletic track?

I have to admit that most were heavily renovated for the Oympics (seated capcity)

Athens Olympic (71,030)

Toumba : (28,701)

Kaftanzogleio : (28 028)

Pankritio : (26.240)

Panpeloponnesian : (23,588)

Panthessalian : (22,700)

Alcazar : (13,108)

The rerst are football only, or are below 10,000 seats ( most around 1k-5k because every single city has small stadium usualy with a track)

spain, france and the benelux are similar to UK in that very few football stadiums have tracks, and icnreasingly so are germany and portugal.

In England we do have athletics stadiums but they tend to be small under 20,000. I can think of Birmingham, Gateshead, Sheffield and crystal palace as the major ones in the UK.

Also chelsea's stadium stamford bridge used to have a track and only became totally trackless in the 1990s

They are and should be banned by UEFA from their competitions, they banned something fan friendly like terracing, howabout they reverse that and ban athletics stadiums too!

in the UK most stadiums are club owned, i can only think of maybe hull city who isn't in the prem. In spain it seems most of the big clubs own their stadiums, same in Germany, in Italy it's overwhelmingly municipal owned.

Erm it is necessary for athletics of course, but as i have said for football it should be attempted to be phased out ASAP.

Kansas Memorial Stadium has hosted the annual Kansas Relays every year since 1928. The stadium is still primarily used for the football team, though.

With those stadiums you showed, I would guess that Greece as a country is one of the best in Europe in this respect. Very good standard!

In Australia, Athletics stadium's aren't too numerous, normally the legacy of an international meet. Others are small and serve as the home to their respective state associations. Some Australian Football / Cricket venues could and or can fit a track but are not used for Athletics.

Queensland Sports and Athletics Centre (formerly ANZ stadium and QE2 Sports Centre) originally built in 1974, enlarged for the 1982 Commonwealth Games. Home of the Brisbane Broncos Rugby League Club from 1993 til 2002.

Melbourne's Olympic Park was built as the warm up track for the 1956 Olympics, across rail lines from the main stadium (Melbourne Cricket Ground).
Home to Victorian Athletics, many Soccer teams and in the last year of hosting the Melbourne Storm Rugby League Club before they move to their new stadium next year.

Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre built as the warm up track for the 2000 Olympics. Home of New South Wales Athletics.

Santos Stadium in Adelaide. Home of South Australian Athletics.

AK Reserve in Perth (almost completed) is the new home of West Australian Athletics.

It replaces Perry Lakes Stadium which was built for the 1962 Commonwealth Games.

That 1-0 defeat must have really effected you. I think you'll find they'll still be in the premier league next season!

Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre built as the warm up track for the 2000 Olympics. Home of New South Wales Athletics.
Come to think of it, the same thing happened in Manchester - after the 2002 Commonwealth Games, the warm-up track was turned into the city's new athletics stadium, which has hosted national events since.

2008 Beijing - retained as athletics stadium.
2006 Melbourne - turned back into football/cricket stadium. Warmup track was already the city's athletics venue.
2004 Athens - retained as athletics stadium.
2002 Manchester - turned into football stadium. Warmup track upgraded to athletics venue.
2000 Sydney - turned into football stadium. Warmup track upgraded to athletics venue.
1998 Kuala Lumpur - retained as athletics stadium.
1996 Atlanta - turned into baseball stadium. Where was the warmup track and what became of it?
1994 Victoria - retained as athletics stadium (used temporary seats for Games).
1992 Barcelona - retained as athletics stadium.
1990 Auckland - anybody have any details?

Bislet Stadion is the main athletic arena in Norway. The stadium as we knows it today was built in 1940 and became the Norwegian national arena for speed skating and athletics. In 1952 Winter Olympics the opening ceremony and the speed skating competitions were held at Bislet. The Attendance record for Bislet is 32.000. Today Bislet is mot known for the yearly Golden League competition.

Bislet Stadion has 14 world record in speed skating and more than 50 in athletics. The stadium was ranked as the 20th century fifth best stadium by Sports Illustrated.

In 2005 the whole stadium was pulled down and because of the historical value a new more or less identical stadium was built. The capacity is today 15.400 seats.

Those grass covered banks are pretty smart. I imagine you could expand your seating capacity relatively easy this way if there ever is a need for it.
