I too would put Amsterdam among the most beautiful. In fact, it's also romantic and all that with its canals. Many people underestimate the beauty of cities and architecture of Northern countries like the Netherlands. Who cannot find those narrow apartment houses of central Amsterdam beautiful?

However, Amsterdam lacks grandeur. It just doesn't have it. Paris has grandeur. It has avenues, boulevards, 18th and 19th c. architecture, bigger apartment buildings where one can more easily splash the elements of fašades. It has big squares and round-abouts. It is monumental, triumphal, imposing.

See? (only the monumental center is featured here)

HONG KONG is the most beautiful city on earth because it has a setting similar to Rio's and now more skyscrapers than New York.
"I'm going to bet you that when we're done --- I don't know when that will be --- historians will identify this as the most significant and rapid transformation of an American city.'' Former Miami City Commissioner Johnny Winton 05/22/2005

And about Sao Paulo and Buenos Aires, well......
You have no idea! I'm sure Madrid can't beat Prague or Paris, but I'm sure as hell it's underrated. Anyway, I do prefer Madrid (it's my favourite city on Earth) and I do declare that I find it amazingly beautiful, even if the World can boast some more spectacular ones.
