This is what a typical ass sucking greeny dousche from Canberra wrote as a comment on the RiotACT. The topic was "Having your say on how we can become more sustainable in the ACT".
"The ACT is at it’s population limit for sustainability. The answer is to discourage people from moving to here, and encourage people to move away." I hope he was joking because that is just stupid. http://the-riotact.com/?p=9259 |

They need lives, if the hate the population and trying to get people to move away, move them away and you can prosper in peace!

Compared to other Australian cities, Canberra is better planned. There is alot of open space which would make other cities jealous for a start.

Canbra is too sprawly.
If they want more people to live there, they should stop building yucky sprawl.

That's what the government is trying to do. But you get so many douschebags like this. Maybe we need to create an Amish community on the skirts of the ACT border for these nutjobs to live.

Camberwell is the world leader in NIMBY skillz.
RESIDENTS FIGHT TO RETAIN 19TH CENTURY HERITAGE CAR PARKING LOT :-) The Boroondara community, nearly to the last man and dog of them (a handful of wealthy, conservative over 65's) are up in arms about the latest interference by the Department of Planning and Community Development. This department dont develope (sic) communities, they destroy them. So far in Boroondara the government has destroyed Tooronga (a run down 1960's shopping centre and car park in a former quarry has been demolished to make way for a housing development) since the Minister declared himself the Planning Authority as well as the shameful treament and destruction of Kew Cottages and the surrounding historical parkland. The Council and Community have been working on setting up a Structure Plan for the Camberwell Junction for the last 4 years, committee meetings, community consultation, costing time and money (the council and the 'community' decided four years ago that they don't want anything to change and have spent four years preparing a structure plan describing in great detail how nothing will change including lots of pretty pictures showing how things will look exactly the same in 20 years time). It is nearing completion. However, the community feel it is a severe compromise because they basically would like to keep their 19th century heritage area as a 19th century heritage area (Does this mean we have to rip up the asphalt, pull out the sewers and then put back the dirt roads, gas lamps and outhouses?). Already as you would know if you have been there, thanks to VCAT and their prodevelopment stand, it is overpowered by a vast 7 storey monstrosity and thanks to the Minister sending a QC to VCAT last December to tell them to approve the 15 storey green glass tower - known locally as the 'green shrek' flanked by two 9 storey green glass towers, these horrors will eventually emerge out of the slime of the overloaded sewer system at the Junction. (And that is a serious issue which is being ignored) In addition, they want to know how many floors of development will go on the Market Car Park, which as many of you know is the home of the CAMBERWELL SUNDAY MARKET, run by Rotary and makes millions for local charities. Rotary point out that this Market is advertised on the international scene and attracts tourists from interstate and overseas (oh dear :-) And now the Minister wants to develope (sic) the land.. The locals of course want to keep it and keep their car park(save our carparks?) They are telling the Minister to keep out, it is ratepayer owned land so they feel he has no right over it. (we have the right to decide who enters Camberwell and we don't want any more of the type of people who rent apartments living in our area, talking their strange languages, yelling at us when we stare disapprovingly and selling drugs to our grand kids.) Mary Drost Vice President Boroondara Residents Action Group

What da hell? We had CAR parking lot in the 19th century? Camberwell must have been the cradle of civilisation back in those days.

The greens policies if they were to be elected into ACT government includes an emphasise on increasing the population density especially in the city also, they want to start planning for a future Mass transport system, something the other governments haven't bothered to do and aren't thinking about. |

A recent petition put up by residents of a high rise in Southbank who are complaining about another high rise that is being constructed next door to them. They've built a comprehensive nimby checklist from having a sad that the building is too close, to blocking their natural light (views), right up to believing that the halting of this development will prevent human casulties.
