A second terminal is under construction; due for completion in 2009 (Open for use in 2010) along with its Pier E ( +20 gates).
A second runway has recieved PP but is under appeal (by the DAA) due to restrictions on opperating hours. Due 2012.

Apron 6B Handover
Apron Phase 6B, the final element of the massive Apron 6 development at Dublin Airport, was handed over today.

The 6B handover marks the end of an 18-month construction programme by contractor Clare Civil, under the management of the DAA.

The project was delivered on time, despite two of the worst summers in living memory at Dublin Airport. The new apron area is located west of the crosswind runway, to the southwest of Pier D.

The Apron 6 project was the largest apron development ever undertaken at Dublin Airport. Apron 6 has about 180,000 sq metres of new concrete, which means it is almost two and a half times larger than Dundrum Shopping Centre.

Apron Phase 6C became operational in April of this year and delivered an extra eight parking stands for short-haul aircraft. Phase 6A, which was handed over in June, delivered 13 new aircraft parking stands for short-haul planes in an area that can also be used to park up to six long-haul aircraft. Apron Phase 6B has two parking stands for short-haul planes.

T2 Check-in Hall Steel In Production

British company Watson Steel has started to make the columns and beams for the frame of the check-in hall for Dublin Airport's new T2 passenger terminal.

Watson plants in Yorkshire and Lancashire and fabricating the steel, 80% of which comes from reclaimed sources.

Since Watson workers began erecting steel at the T2 construction site in late March, their work has concentrated on the main terminal building. But in a few weeks, the true shape of the entire terminal will begin to emerge, as work will start on building the steel frame of the T2 check-in hall.

The check-in hall sits at the front of the T2 construction site and will be linked to the main terminal building by a bridge that forms the central spine of T2. The bridge will span the main access road to Terminal One, as it will eventually pass through the centre of the new terminal.

Construction work on T2 started almost 11 months ago. The new terminal is due to completed in late 2009 and will open to the public in April 2010.

Interesting facts about the Airport there - i can't wait to use the new terminal pier, for far too long i've been using that crappy portacabin walkway that used to grace new arrivals.

DAA Awards Final T2 Construction Contracts

The Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) has awarded the final three contracts for the construction of Terminal Two.

The three contracts, which cover fit out, specialist systems and airbridges, have a combined value of more than €100 million. The awarding of the three contracts concludes the main procurement phase of T2, as all 17 construction contracts have now been placed.

Construction work at T2 started on October 1st last year. The new terminal is due to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2009 and will open to the public in April 2010 following testing and commissioning.

“The placing of these contracts is another major milestone on the road to delivering T2 and transforming the passenger experience at Dublin Airport,” said DAA Chief Executive Declan Collier.

The fit out contract, which was won by Irish construction firm PJ Hegarty, includes the floors, walls, ceilings and all other internal fittings for the new terminal. The fit out contract covers the 75,000 sq metre terminal and the 24,000 sq metre Pier E boarding gate facility.

SITA has been awarded the contract for T2’s specialist IT and communications systems. The contract covers airport systems such as check-in and flight information screens. US firm FMC Jetway, which is a subsidiary of JBT Corporation, won the airbridges contract and will install 19 of its Jetway airbridges at Pier E.

The awarding of the last three T2 contracts marks the end of more than two years of procurement for the new terminal, as the EU tender notice for the first two construction contracts was placed in June 2006.

More than 700 people are now working on T2 and the numbers employed on the project will rise to about 2,000 next year during the peak construction phase.

The T2 project includes a 75,000 sq metre new passenger terminal, a 25,000 sq metre new boarding gate pier with 19 gates, an energy efficient combined heat and power (CHP) plant, an upgrade to Dublin Airport’s campus road network and the installation of new services needed to operate the terminal.

D73 - D80 - Trust Ryanair to make you walk a Marathon distance - They are probrably doing it in protest about something.

Well if it's Ryanair the portacabins are probably their new (and permanent) walkway to the main terminal - we get what we pay for

Hopefully not, I've heard a lot of talk about pier D being extended further to add more gates so I assume that would mean the end of the poxy shed

As long as they put a few travelators in it shouldn't be a problem

Thery'd want to put in a lot of travelators and wider ones because the amount of goons who get on a travelator and stand side by side, having a chat blocking the whole thing, is a farce. Mini rant over lol

I really hope they put a better choice of restaurants and eateries o the airside of T2 than they have in the current terminal. theres that main restaurant airside in the current terminal but it hasnt got a great choice and is a rip off, I'd prefer maybe an o' briens or a macky d's or something.
