FRANKFURT | Bahn-Tower (Campanile) | 210m | ~50 fl | Pro

Today Vivico announced that the Deutsche Bahn AG would like to be the main tenant in a new developement close to the main train station in Frankfurt.
The City Counsil said the max. height is 210m at this location, even though in the highrise developement plan, published a few weeks ago the max height is only 100m.

But due to the possibility of many newly created jobs, a integrated Bus Terminal, which is absolutely necessary for Frankfurt and also the construction of up to 360! Apartements in the vincinity as well as a comapny museum, this might be a great catch for Frankfurt.

A few figures:
Investment: 300 Million Euros
JObs: 3000
Tenancy: 20years

source:
http://www.faz.net/s/RubFAE83B7DDEFD...~Scontent.html

A few pictures of the location:

Interesting about that project is also the controversy surrounding the spot.

In the eightys it as planned to build the highest skyscraper of europe at that location. Supposed to be 300m tall, planned by J.S.K. Architects, financing ready, the poject could not be built due to an old woman living there. In that time it was necessary to get permission of all neighbours living around a spot where something new was to be built. Even after offering her millions of Deutsche Mark at the time, she still refused to give her permission.
But times have changed now, nobody thought of having such a high tower at that location and laws have changed...

Here is a old rendering of the Campanile planned as by the J.S.K Architects:

The next steps are:

A competition for the design of the sqare place in combination with the highrise and the bus terminal.

We will keep You updated, cheers

Thank you newfvgffm for this information. That is great news. One of the most rundown areas in central Frankfurt will get a complete redevelopment. Also good that this project will include a new long distance bus station (similar to greyhound). The old one is a disgrace for a modern city like Frankfurt.

Can't wait for the first renderings.

What, there are areas in central Frankfurt that aren't rundown?

run down is realtive. but that area is definitely more run down than most parts of central frankfurt.

thanks for posting this. might be a little early to create a thread, but with vivico as developer things can move very quickly as seen in the last few weeks with other skyscraper projects in the vicinity.

hope this doesn't get closed though because of the wrong title format

Good Morning,
Sorry for the wrong title format, its only a minor mistake i made, so i hope the mods will not close it.

I don't think it's too early, Vivico is a quite serious Builder, and Deutsche Bahn always was interested i a own skyscraper.
And if politicians are already speaking about the consenus concerning height ect. i gues it will be pretty sure.

very good news! Frankfurt needs more of open public skyscrapers to make them more "likeable" within it's population

Great news. A freshly proposed 210m-tower always sounds good.

But please - DON'T build the Bahntower right next to the Main Station. This place could only cope with a max. height of around 150m, everything above would look stupid and out of place. RATHER take the UEC/Skyline Plaza Office Tower 1 lot. That's the place where such a tower could improve the skyline and where we have a big range of design possibilities. And I suppose it'd be even cheaper for the Bahn.

Sorry if I'm repetitive, but this surely isn't the place for such a big ben.

Fine... this could make a nice replacement for the never built Campanile project of the 1980/90s by Hans-Robert Hiegel. For me, a 210m-tower would be alright next to the largest railway station of Germany and apart from the Old Town.

Of course it's up to you to run against the heigth, erbsenzaehler... and you won't be alone, there's for instance this lady:
"200 meters are much too tall!" ... In 2007, architect Jourdan had answered her question about the planned height with "100 meters", and she was satisfied then. "I'd even barely accept 120 meters. But not 200!" (translated by me).
I'm talking about Germany's most famous NIMBY... Hannelore Kraus, the former "Campanile-killer". She's still alive and around:
http://www.fnp.de/fnp/region/lokales...5146411.de.htm.
At least, she's finally resigned herself to the fact, that there might be another significant highrise in her neighbourhood, the Gutleutviertel...
