The colors

One of these days it would be great if Safeco was outfitted in Mariners colors (navy, silver, "dark cyan", and white). I cringed each time Ken Wilson, one of the broadcasters who filled in for the late Niehaus, stated he "loved the green" of Safeco Field. It maybe traditional to some, but I am over the green, which has become too commonplace in conservative baseball, I am ready for a change to Safeco's color scheme.

Before the 2010 season, a new out-of-town scoreboard was installed behind the bullpens and prior to the 2011 season, new LED ribbon boards were installed on the fascia of the second deck. We have reason to be optimistic about a new scoreboard with a larger video screen to debut at Safeco before next season!

Safeco's roof malfunctions during FanFest

rare roof malfunction at Safeco
a broken wheel was the culprit, and in order to repair it, the roof section that failed well need to be jacked up to repair the wheel.

Bring in the dimensions.

It was done at Comerica Park . It was done at Citi Field. It's time for it to happen at Safeco Field. Bring in the fences, especially in left and left-center. The park plays too big now. It's not 1999. The steroid era is over. Baseball players today just don't look like roided out pro wrestlers anymore. Safeco is one of the coldest ballparks, if not the coldest ballparks in baseball. The ball just doesn't carry out there. The dimensions are big anyway. Make it fairer. I anticipate the changes will be made in the offseason.

Ichiro to the Yankees

Ichiro to bat 8th tonight for the Yankees against the Mariners at Safeco. Well, I hope the future Hall of Famer gets a nice ovation from the fans in attendance. Damn shame he participated in just one postseason as a Mariner.

The unfamiliar number 31

Kudos to Yankees skipper Joe Girardi for have Ichiro hit leadoff in his final game at Safeco Field.

King's Court becomes the Supreme Court

CBS Seattle

First 34,000 fans receive a "King of Perfection" t-shirt at the August 21st game against Cleveland. It would be very embarrassing for the Mariners if they fail to draw at least 34,000 for that game, Felix Hernandez's next start and first since pitching a perfect game, especially with discounted ticket prices, $10 for view level, and $30 for main level.

OFF TOPIC
Man.. when I was a kid back in the mid to late 60s it cost a $1.30 to get into grandstand general admission seats in old Crosley Field in Cincinnati. The bleachers called the Sun deck or Moon deck was a cool .50 cents for kids. But if you were a wise guy ..like me and my pal "D" we'd go on knot hole(Little League) Saturday and get in line behind some black kids and play like we were part of their crew and walk right in...back in the day..

How did we get to the game? We took the bus...no mommy to drop us off.
END OFF TOPIC

ps.. Ichiro is one hell of a baseball player. An hall of famer for sure!

Well, the Mariners drew a Tuesday night crowd of 39,204 for the "King of Perfection" t-shirt giveaway! A very charged atmosphere no doubt as King Felix received several standing ovations! It was like the Mariners went back in time! The Mariners have the best record in the American League since the All-Star Break! The fans want to embrace the team once again.

Thats all good and dandy, but when you start off the season by dropping 24 games behind the Rangers by the All Star break, it doesn't really matter. If you play hard enough though, you might finish with a better record than the Angels.

Well, as I write this Seattle is 65-70, the modest goal the rest of the season is .500. I'm not a player, so you should have said if "they" play hard enough. Can the Rangers win a 3rd straight A.L. pennant? I doubt it with their weak rotation.

Let's not start talking about anything "weak", now....

Who set the goal at .500? You?

What does playing .500 ball for September accomplish?

I didn't set the goal, but it seems obtainable. The goal is not to play .500 in September but to finish the season at .500. Yes, that is extremely modest goal and quite frankly quite embarrassing as a Mariners fan to admit. However, in 2011 the Mariners were 67-95 and in '10 they were 61-101. A season in which they finish around .500 would be deemed a step in the right direction. At the All Star Break, their record was 36-51, now it's 67-71. The team is very young and they have holes at a number of positions, but overall they seem to be heading in the right direction.

On a side note, Seattle hasn't had any measurable precipitation for 45 straight days. Who needs a roof?

Attendance

The Mariners are averaging 21,997 a game in 2012. 10th out 14 American League teams. Last year the 67-95 Mariners averaged 23,411, 8th out 14 American League teams. Attendance has gone down 5 straight seasons. Percentage of ballpark capacity is irrelevant.
