Santa Barbara rail trip from L.A.

My girlfriend and I decided to take one last trip before she goes back to school (high school english teacher). It was only a day trip, and I wanted her to experience the joy of riding the train from LA to Santa Barbara. Its my understanding that coastal route from LA to Seattle is considered the most scenic of all the routes in the USA. Unfortunetly this time around we only experience about a 100 miles of the trip.

Note: the photos before we reached Santa Barbara are from the train through tinted glass, and a fast moving train. Please forgive the glare, and fuzzy photos.

I also LOVE the flora and the surroundings (mountains). It reminds me of similar places where I'd love to live: SE Australia, South Africa, the Mediterranean.

I think i see a great white shark dorsal fin in the shot after Ventura Station. Santa Barbara is gorgeous.

I guess you can say that, but so is Las Vegas, San Diego, Palm Springs, and many of the local resorts in the mountains.

All of these cities are short trips for weekend getaways for Angelenos. In a sense some Angelenos even look at San Franciso as a weekend getaway. Although its a bit longer drive 6-7 hours. But its very cheap to fly, and is only about a 45 to an hour flight from LA.
