This is silly. Then if there are women-only compartments, there should be men-only ones as well!
But where does it lead us? It reminds of WWII-times, when there were german-only compartments on trams during their occupation in Poland.

changes always come slowly and as long as people want it its ok!and i know many woman inmy family who feel more comfortable in women only trains and some dont care and travel in the mixed ones!
not every society is like the western society!
silly is not a good word for this! cause people have different pont of views and different attitudes!someone likes to go with the bikini to the beach and dont care people seeing their boobs and ass,and another one doesnt even want to show her feet!and she would shame!some people a more conservativ and some not!
there should be a free society!it should not be that way that a girl who is conservativ has to explain why she doesnt like to travel inside a wagon with full of man she didnt know and feels bad!
what i want to say balance is the key!dont judge people who dont act and think like u and be more tolerant!
and the western way of living is not the solution for everything--we as middle easteners should not adopt evvery aspect of a western society!

Ps:u comparison with nazi germany is absolutly bullshit cause jews and polish people were not allowed to use the trains were german were!
and in iran every girl or woman can travel with mixed trains!but she also can travel with woman only train!
so she has one opportunity more and can choose!

Btw, in all the sleeping cars on the french railways, and I guess on most european railways, the women can chose to travel in a women only compartment..

Nope. In cars there were sector for Germans only, and sectors for Poles and Germans. Germans could travel in both sectors, while Poles only in mixed sectors. For Jews it was forbidden to use trains and trams. So women in Iran are like Germans occupied Poland.

America is the biggest destabilizing force in Iraq- it invaded and destroyed the country in addition to killing tens of thousands of innocent people!!

The Shiites of Iraq and Iran share very close ethnic and religious bonds. THe poeple running the country and its most important political parties lived and are closely aligned with Iran. Iraq wants Iranian influence, at least among the Shiites.

How hypocritical for the US to be angered at Iranian influence in Iraq given what the Americans have done to rape and pillage that country!!

^i try to shy away from the political discussions here. hoosier is right. unfortunately many other supposedly 'patriotic' types are just regurgitating our own propaganda against the out-group. why else could a thread about tehran's subway system bring about such vitriol (from unnamed members/idiots/etc.). these guys place blame on the enemy, yet are blissfully ignorant of their own biases.

at any rate, PT investment is one USEFUL way to spend government revenues. and... paying for the military represents the complete opposite.

the gender separated cars represent yet another opportunity to broadcast our own cultural biases against the out-group. if women feel comfortable riding the subways in their own section, why should we cast judgment upon them? across cultures, women have overwhelmingly been victimized by men, not the other way around. did it ever occur to these critics, women may just feel more comfortable away from aggressive and/or ornery men? similarly, just down the road from my comfortable western existence, a 'women only' gym exists. there isn't much difference between the gender segregated gym and gender segregated subway cars, but people still find an excuse to see these cars as emblematic of some atavistic, misogynist culture.

Managing director of Tehran Subway Commissioning Company announced that as new trains will join Tehran subway early next year, its passenger capacity will increase two times.

Rabiei was quoted by SAMA as saying that, at present, only half of the actual capacity of subway lines is being used and new trains will double its capacity.
He added that according to the comprehensive plan for traffic and transportation in Tehran, the city needs eight subway lines inside and four lines for suburbs and construction of lines 3, 4, 6, and 7 of Tehran subway is simultaneously going on.
Rabiei noted that construction of new lines will depend on new credits being appropriated, adding, “To develop subway we need credits in rial and foreign exchange and we hope timely supply of needed budget will help us develop the subway as soon as possible.”

Seems to me that Tehran's subway network is very close in configuration to the one of our capital's city, Minsk (Republic of Belarus). I'm a novice to this site, and not a great forumer, so I'm not sure that the link to the picture below will work out

We have two lines in operation now, with two more planned (not sure if they are being constructed already, seems to me no However, three more stations on the westward-going line have opened recently, so we're moving on too, though not as fast as you guys in Iran

On april 4th, 2009, I will be there to visit and judge by myself. Tehran,
Shiraz, Isfahan, Yadz, Kerman, Bam, Mashhad are the places I will go to.
Besides the metro construction sites, anything else worth visiting in the
rail transportation area ? Things I should not miss ?

Also, to those who live there or know the area, an important question :
is it safe, or dangerous, to take trains, railways, or metro pictures over
there ? Do I risk to get arrested, my camera seized, my pictures erased
or whatever if I'm caught taking pictures of transportation systems ? If so,
is there may be a way to request a formal authorization ? Tourist guides
about Iran are full of warnings about taking pictures of 'forbidden' sites,
but never mention whether transportation systems are part of the forbidden
list...

Tia,

Marc.

Tia,

Marc.
hi marc!
i am happy that u are traveling to iran!
i have much respect for this!
cause only traveling and visiting other countrys will bring people together!
about rail constructions i have not much infos!
but i know
shiraz, mashhad, isfahan are building metros or light trains!
and u canmake pictures of metro and nothing wil happen!
u can also ask iranians making photo of u and they will make it!
the most iranians are very polite and hospitality is in their culture!
but u should take care of makin photos of women who are in black chadors!
u know these women are very conservative and maybe they dont want it!
also i wouldnt not take pictures of girls, cause maybe some civilpolice or militia see it and make trouble cause u areforeigner and they think they can make some money!
and i would not make photos of
police stations,army caserns,diplomatic outposts,ministerial complexes .....
i hope u will enjoy and see we IRANIANS DONT EAT OTHER HUMAN BEEINGS LIKE FOX NEWS WANT TO SHOW THE WORLD

I hope all these lines get finished as soon as possible and others are added, to relieve Tehran traffic.
