Nice pictures, but I disagree with your characterization of the teams... :P

I don't know what the players are whining about regarding the raised hardwood, especially BigTen players, since Minnesota's Williams Arena also has a raised floor (as I'm sure many other venues have as well).

Minnesota, Vanderbilt and Butler all have raised floors (though Williams arena at Minnesota is the only one that is raised substantially), but those are the only ones left as far as I know.
Also I have been to a number of games at Williams and have only seen one person fall off the court. In the NIT game hosting Maryland (which was far and away the worst refereed game I have ever seen) a couple weeks ago one of the Maryland players ended up in Trent Tucker's lap, but that is the only I have seen since my first game in 1996. |

So whats the point of moving the court to the 50 yard line if you're going to put curtains behind the end stands anyways?

BTW, the first night of this setup in Detroit drew about 55,000. That's a non-Final Four record. |

By putting the court over the 50 yard line (ie, in the centre of the stadium), they are trying to max out potential the seating capacity.
The design of the basketball setting at the new Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis has shown that they can possibly draw even bigger numbers to the NCAA Final Four than they have ever seen before and others are starting to mimick that even if their own stadium isn't actually designed to do so. Remeber that the Basketbowl in Detroit at Ford Field a few years back drew over 75,000 fans. That shows the potential of what these large stadiums can do when hosting the Final Four. You might find one day soon that the days of 40,000+ fans at the Final Four are going to be a memory. Upwards of 60-70,000 will be the norm soon. Even places like the Alomodome, Georgia Dome, Metrodome & Edward Jones Dome will change the set ups they have had in the past. They'll probably have to if they wish to get more Final Four tournaments. Still, for basketball, you'd need a telescope to see the court from the back row of a 65,000 seat stadium. Isn't Lucas Oil Stadium (Indianapolis) designed in a way so that it can be configured for a basketball game? I would be interested in knowing the capacity for a b-ball game there...

However, if you go to the site for the Indiana Stadium & Convention Building Authority site http://www.in.gov/iscba/2371.htm you will see that it says in its description of Lucas Oil Stadium :- Quote:
