This building is boxy, however I still find it ugly because of its seemingly random irregularity. I like when a building has a clear, symmetrical and regular shape

Yeah, we know already. Thank god Bratislava has a lot of those.

(Seriousley, it has the smallest historical center I've ever seen.)

It Begins...

The good news is that the excavation and foundation work were completed pre-stall, so once Con Edison vaults are finished, they can start with structural work. The bad news is that the project is expected to take four years, because the building’s many cantilevers make for slow going. The timetable they set out is as follows:

• October–December 2012: Con Ed vaults and foundation remediation
• December 2012–August 2014: Superstructure
• November 2012–January 2016: Mechanical, electrical, plumbing and sprinklers
• July 2013–April 2015: Fašade
• August 2013–January 2016: Interiors
• Completion: Spring 2016.

One of the reasons I enjoy following construction on this website so much is because it gives me a sense of where I will be when a structure is completed. My time in the Marine Corps will be coming to an end once this skyscraper is finished in Spring 2016.

56 Leonard St. Tower Set to Rise in Tribeca

Foundation work is resuming at 56 Leonard Street, located at the southwest corner of Church Street in Tribeca. Construction at the site initially began several years ago, but was put on hold in 2010. Developer Alexico Group has since replaced the contractor with Lend Lease U.S. Construction Co., and is now restarting erection of the same 57-story tower that was originally unveiled in 2008.

Crews are now performing utility vault construction along Leonard Street between Church and West Broadway. Additional foundation work will follow inside the site through the end of the year, with some utility tie-ins on the Church Street side. Superstructure construction will follow in early 2013 for approximately 18 months, through mid-2014 -- that schedule accounts for the innovative design of the skyscraper, including its cantilevered apartments and balconies. Full completion is expected in spring 2016.

The building was designed by the Swiss architectural firm Herzog and de Meuron, and features 145 luxury condominium apartments ranging from two to five bedrooms, as well as 10 penthouses on the uppermost floors. Once completed it will be the tallest residential tower in Tribeca and one of the tallest in all of Lower Manhattan.

Just discovered that one, and really like it. Surprisingly one such tower creates awesome effect in dense boxy city. Just don't make too much of them near each other because that would be a horrible idea.

There was already one kinda similar proposal for also dense boxy city of Chongqing called Urban Forest. The tower is different (and much taller) but it makes quite similar effect.

And I'm not even fan of organic architecture, but such displaced floors which is the idea both towers share makes true landmark of such tower rising above the boxes. Too bad the Chongqing proposal was rejected, but at least there is this NY beauty to follow

Wow, I love the Chongqing one. But for China. Not New York.

It's good to see such a great tower under-construction again! it'll be interesting to see how this tower will rise and were abouts the cranes will be placed due to shape!

it's also good to see a big project underway in Lower Manhatten seeing as WT1 and 4 are almost complete!

yes, that's a bit over the top for my taste. Does not fit in New York IMO.
56 Leonard Street is just perfect.

I didn't realize this is a little outside of the cluster of Lower Manhattan. This thing is going to stand out just like Trump SoHo. Wished it were slightly taller, but this is amazing!

It wasn't designed for New York. But it shares similar idea with 56 Leonard Street to put chaotic tower between boxes. I think it'll work great as long as there will be only one chaotic tower in neighborhood.

There will be a massive gap between this tower and the rest of lower mahanttan. Poor place to put this building, IMO.
