Poor building to put in this place. It's not so beautiful and interesting to get built in lower manhattan.IMO

Nothing wrong with this building nor its solitaire location. In the future there will be more towers surrounding this building.

Maybe good not to visit this topic then and let us party. This will probably become one of my favorites in Manhattan! Love to see it restarted!

It isn't too far from where the taller lower manhattan buildings are

it certainly adds to the view of Downtown from Midtown, namely that of the Empire State Building.

It's only 10-12 blocks dead north on Church St from the WTC and 99 Church, and the rest of the Downtown's cluster, so it's not too bad. Just depends on your angle, from some angles Beekman is pretty far removed from the rest of downtown, but from that angle, this fits right in.

Anyways, this will certainly be a beauty.

It's 600 m from where 30 church street will be build.
But the place is good, this tower doesn't deserve to be hide behind other towers.

not trying to sound like a hater or anything but i think it messes up the skyline. it doesn't belong. i understand that new york needs more diversity in it's skyline but it doesn't need another box & it doesn't need an asymmetrical skyscraper either. just my opinion.

absolutely, with this design it has to stand free from other tall towers. and not to forget the view to downtown in the higher floors

It is between two landmark districts, so it is unlikely the build more highrises nearby.

Anyway, I think that many of the people that now dislike this building would change their minds once its completed.

Fantastic design and Tribeca's first real skyscraper.

Hopefully this will encourage more developers to start building in Tribeca and SoHo so that one day the Downtown and Midtown clusters will be linked.

^ Again, never gonna happen. Enormous swaths of the areas between the Downtown skyline and Midtown are landmarked, and can never be developed, OR are zoned for low rise buildings. These are some of the best neighborhoods in the city, and depending on taste, the country. Tribeca, Soho, Greenwich Village, Chinatown, Flatiron, etc, etc...

And before someone mentions the urban myth that bedrock has formed the two cluster skyline, heres a published study debunking that myth.

This was the timeline pre-Sandy (bulleted below), so I assume it's been pushed back a few weeks, but I'd expect a tower crane on site certainly by the end of the year. As of now, the site looks like it is pictured below, with Con Ed blocking off half of Leonard heading West to do their work before construction crews can fully resume the 56 Leonard Street tower. I'll make time to swing down once or twice a week to see whether or not a tower crane has been erected on site.

October–December 2012: Con Ed vaults and foundation remediation
• December 2012–August 2014: Superstructure
• November 2012–January 2016: Mechanical, electrical, plumbing and sprinklers
• July 2013–April 2015: Façade
• August 2013–January 2016: Interiors
• Completion: Spring 2016.

HOPEFULLY NOT.

This building is nice, but leave Tribeca the **** alone. Go build high rise towers in Midtown or the Financial District...not in historic low rise residential neighborhoods.

With funding in place for this, this isn't a Tower Verre situation, should see a crane in a couple of weeks I imagine. Photo is mine.
