I know they haven't finished with more "interesting" upper floors, but I'm a bit disappointed by how boring this tower looks! its looking less like a jenga stack of blocks, and more like a square glass box with random balconies. (an idea which has been done a million times) lets hope the top floors make up for the first 2 thirds.

Yea, the base is so awesome. I'm waiting to see the whole thing before passing judgement. I've gone from one end of the spectrum to the other several times during construction.

Is there anything you don't hate or trash? 11 posts and you could replace Rachel Dratch as Debbie Downer on SNL.

This is sort of like visiting a city where people tell you not to visit a certain neighborhood, then you do and think "man this city sucks" when the rest of the city is amazing. We all knew the mid section would be boring and we'd have to wait for the top portion to finish before we could pass judgement, we've known this since the renders came out. And still just like that neighborhood we knew about, people are acting stupid, like this is some surprise. WAIT FOR THE TOP TO FINISH. It's a fantastic building, undermining its beauty right now because you have no vision for how it will finish is annoying.

This building definitely had good height for the area.

Any thoughts on how long the concrete balconies will last? With some skyscrapers approachi 100 years of age, this got me thinking. What will be maintainable in the long run?

For instance, the corner spires of the Woolworth building are now greatly simplified. Their amazing artististry is gone forever. When the balconies start to crumble, will they be replaced or simply removed?

They'll be fine. It's easy to repair concrete even without it looking patchy.

Hey folks, with pic above I think I was able to get a better idea of how tall this building nowadays is. Please note that the silhouette in my diagram is only approximate, so I used the (more or less) exact original drawing on SSP to calculate the height. I estimated that it is currently 222 meters or 728 feet tall

Awesome. From the most recent photos, it seems we have reached our first truly wonky, cantilevered floor. Should be a bizarre and exhilarating watch the rest of the way up!
