Can't wait for the netting to be removed and it all revealed. Thanks for the heads up!

There must be a sciency answer, but it happens after a big storm, there was one instance last year where the sky turned a magnificent golden hue during a break in a storm.

is that color for real?
and do you guys know the actual reason for the netting to be there for so long? Is it to keep the crowd curious or is that a part of the whole process in the making?

yes, the skies looked like that over a large portion of the East Coast. Folks in the midwest probably see this all the time.

here's Boston that evening.

During the day the sky is blue because as perceived on earth because the sun is directly overhead and the sunlight is shining pretty much straight down through the layers of atmosphere, and the blue light of the visible light spectrum (ROYGBIV) is able to pass through and reach your eyes.

At sunset the sun is shining at a lower angle, therefore it has much more atmosphere (and smog, clouds etc.) to go through so the shorter waves of blue light get scattered about as it reflects off the molecules of air, and the result is that the red light is more able than the blue light to shine through.

When a storm passes through and there are clouds such as the ones the other evening, the conditions are perfect to allow just the right amount of light to pass through and create a beautiful sunset.

I think it is more about refraction. Shorter blue waves get more refracted then long red waves.
