I think 56 Leonard looked better in the renderings, but overall, still a very nice tower.

Golden Manhattan! Despite a hazy and polluted day, Manhattan is aglow with a smeared golden light at sunset today. by javansg, on Flickr

I think some people think 30 PP treads a bit to close to 80s/90s post modern territory (mainly due to a relative lack of ornamentation) rather than truly emulating the look and feel of the classic downtown towers. Though I agree most people seem to like it enough.

Yeah, that's the camp that a minority of forumers (including myself) fall into: generally very impressed with the base, crown and overall profile, but lamenting the textureless "flatness" of the middle. But hardly anyone would say it ruins that tower, it's just one of those quirks that some people dislike, and which nearly every project seems to have -- 56 Leonard has the white window frames, Gehry has the (much more egregiously) value-engineered flat side.

With projects this large and complex, you're bound to have a collection of divisive little details. We're lucky that the overall, big-picture quality of the towers in the latest NY boom are so very high.

Delighted to see the upper portion is as crazy as the renderings showed.

This is turning out to be a landmark building. I wouldn't even say that the top is crazy. There's a certain logic and rigor to the cantilevers that reminds me of Fallingwater.
