Ok dont wanna bore you all with my predictions about the the 2010 date so . .
An interesting thing about Mr Mallya but not related to F 1.
As we know he ownes abiut 250 classic sports & racing cars .Mostly housed in the UK i think. He has a massive interest in M/S history.
Interviewed in the in the UK M/S press, he was asked which of his cars was his favorite.
It was Jaguar D Type 'OKV 3' Le Mans car from 1954.Serious racing pedigre.(And of course that company is owned by his mate Mr Tata.)
A good choice,he knows his cars

And isnt that a famous indian starlet sitting in it?

greater Noida is what the reports said and land has been earmarked but there has been little/no progress since , if there has to be a race within 2 years then we'll defo hear something concrete in the next 2-3- months.

India starts constructing Formula-1 circuit

India will start construction of a Formula One circuit near New Delhi in October and is on track to host its first Grand Prix in 2010, Force India team owner Vijay Mallya said.

“I happened to be having lunch with the CEO of one of India’s biggest banks and he confirmed that they had sanctioned a facility to the developer of the Indian track,” he added.

“He has actually bought the land and on October 1 construction of a brand new track will begin.

“So for the first time now I think I feel very confident to be able to say to you that there will be a brand new track and that we will have our first Grand Prix in 2010. It’s just outside New Delhi,” said Mallya.

Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president Suresh Kalmadi announced last September that Formula One Management had approved two sites on the outskirts of New Delhi with the IOA to make the final choice.

Mallya, who bought the Spyker team last year and renamed it, has said he wants Force India to be in a position to claim their first podium finish by 2010 when they can expect to be racing in front of a home crowd.

Very soon

Is India geared up for Formula One?

India would be hosting the F1 Grand Prix at New Delhi in 2009. But India's F1 racer Narain Karthikeyan expressed his concern over the lack of infrastructure and logistics problems to hold such a mega event in India.
CJ: B D Narayankar , 19 Sep 2008
INDIA IS on the verge of holding F1 Grand Prix at New Delhi somewhere in October 2009. But does the city boast of holding such a mega event?

Joining issue with the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president Suresh Kalmadi, F1 racer Narain Karthikeyan expressed his concern recently over the lack of infrastructure to hold F1 race in Delhi. He, however, expressed happiness that F1 racing was coming to India.

Though F1 tracks requires just 4.5 to 6 km long stretch of land, much of the land is needed for the actual layout, including spectator facilities, pit garages, hospitality and parking space among others.

The Sepang circuit in Malaysia, for instance, was constructed on 2,300 acres and Shanghai International Circuit was constructed over a 1,000-acre area. However, these are very lavish facilities. Istanbul Park in Turkey, which produces some fascinating racing is built on just under 500 acres of land.

Hence, there is a huge responsibility on India to make the event successful by providing such an infrastructure for the mega event on time.

Problems of hosting F1 in India lay in the logistics. “Right now there is no infrastructure to hold F1 race,” Karthikeyan said. According to F1 Grand Prix organisers, a F1 team requires as much as a 100 hotel rooms needed to service corporate guests, media and spectators. Also required are the infrastructure facilities to transport the considerable amount of equipment the teams and event staff require for holding each round of the currently 18-round series.

Asked whether he was happy about the financial resources to hold F1 racing in India, Karthikeyan said that business magnates like Vijay Mallya and few others have shown immense interest in financing and popularising the sport. “But things just oozes out quickly and subsides at the same speed,” he said.

However, one should not compare the event held at Bahrain. “The kingdom of Bahrain had unlimited funds and could hold the race successfully. Whether we have such funds? I don’t think so,” Karthikeyan said. He, however, had words of appreciation for IOA for succeeding in organising such an event in India. “F1’s Indian GP in 2009 would satisfy the legions of Indian fans of the sport who were currently glued to the television on Sundays and turn up in droves at various venues where large viewing screen are put up,” he said.

Having an Indian F1 track would also allow India to bid for other international race series, including the A1 GP, where a team represents India, Formula 3, GP2 and motorcycle races. In addition, a number of Asian series’ and local events can also now be hosted, Karthikeyan said.

On his personal front, he said he was happy to have been associated with Williams for F1 racings. “The team has been exceedingly well and it will be great driving with them,” he said.

And where would you stand by 2009? “I am hopeful to be a full-time driver. Also I have age with me. I am just 32 today,” Karthikeyan said.

Commenting on the budding talents Karan Chandu and Arman Ibrahim, he said: “India has a lot of potential and India’s future is bright.”

Indian Grand Prix postponed till 2011 : Bernie Ecclestone

Well the critics of the Indian Grand Prix have been proved right. It seems that India will not be ready to host a formula one grand prix by 2010. 2010 is also the year when India hosts the Commonwealth Games at New Delhi.

“It’s all going on as usual, but these things take time,” “Probably 2011 is what I want.” Bernie Ecclestone was quoted by newspapers

Meanwhile Force India formula one team supremo Vijay Mallya acted surprised, he said that the track would be ready by 2010 and didnt really know what Bernie was thinking.

“The track will be ready next year and we will let Bernie decide. I don’t know what’s on his mind…but he makes the schedule.”

Tilke would be visiting Delhi again to make a master plan for the circuit

India to host its first Formula One race in 2010
Author : DPA

http://www.earthtimes.org/articles/show/108887.html

New Delhi - India will host its first Formula One race in 2010, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) announced on Monday. The IOA president, Suresh Kalmadi, told reporters in New Delhi that Hermann Tilke, chief architect for the F1 circuits, had inspected various sites in an aerial survey during his visit to the Indian capital recently.

Tilke had selected two sites: Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh and Sohna in Haryana states, both suburbs of New Delhi. The IOA, the promoter of the event, will choose between the shortlisted venues, Kalmadi added.

The IOA chief said he held extensive discussions in connection with the race with F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone in London last week.

"It has been decided that the first Formula One world championship will be held in the national capital region Delhi in 2010," Kalmadi said adding that Tilke would be visiting Delhi again to make a master plan for the circuit.

He said F1 had handed over two draft contracts, one a race promotion contract and the second, a circuit rights agreement.

In June this year, Kalmadi had said that F1 may come to the country by 2009. He had said that a deal was signed with the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) for a Formula One Grand Prix in the Indian capital.

Asked why New Delhi was chosen as the venue in India, Kalmadi said that the city was scheduled to host the Commonwealth Games in 2010.

"So we will have international airport, hotels and other infrastructure ready for this," Kalmadi had said then.

Asia already hosts four F1 races - in Malaysia, Bahrain, Japan and China, with Abu Dhabi scheduled to host one from 2009.

When

Bernie Ecclestone is the one who will makes the final decision, he is saying 2011 but Vijay Mallya wants 2010. The track will be ready regardless of 2010 or 2011. Construction will start very soon, it will not take very long to build the track.

Indian Grand Prix debut pushed back to 2011

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/mot...rmula-One.html

FI commercial rights owner Bernie Ecclestone has delayed plans to stage the race in 2010 even though construction work on the circuit in Delhi should be completed in time for the start of the 2010 season.

Ecclestone does not want to take any risks and has decided to push the race back a year, revealing his decision following the Singapore Grand Prix.

Following the success of the sport's first ever night race, Williams team boss Sir Frank Williams has said the future of F1 lies in Asia.

Williams has said that due to Asia's economic rise, Europe and the United States do not hold as much of a commercial draw which countries in the Far East now boast.

With Singapore now on the calendar, Asia and the Middle East have six Grand Prix races including Australia, Bahrain, China, Japan and Malaysia.

Abu Dhabi will make its debut next year, followed by South Korea in 2010 before India host their first ever Grand Prix.

Williams even believes Singapore has a good chance of rivalling Monaco for becoming Formula One's prized asset.

It’s very good news for all of us. Finally India will came up with own grand prix championship for formula -1 racing cars. I hope that as per announcement made by Vijay Mallya the track will come up on the time in 2010. I’m eagerly waiting for our Formula -1 Indian grand prix.
