After long years’ construction, Isfahan’s metro system is opened at last.

Like Mashhad & Shiraz Metro – it was also delayed due to hard soil, and fear of damage of archeological and historical objects. However, better late than never.
Isfahan’s metro is the 4th Iranian metro system. Rolling stocks are same as Tehran’s new metro, but the difference is that Terhan Metro uses 3rd rail, where Isfahan metro uses overhead wire.

Already they have planned long term plan. Line 1 will be extended both in northwest and south. In south it will connect the suburban rail station. It will pass under Zayandeh Rud River, which will be first underwater metro line in Iran. The fully underground line 2 & line 3 is also partly under construction. Line 2 will have a branch line. Line 3 will also cross Zayandeh Rud.
