Gran Vía - Murallas is wireless.

Tramway batteries are charged on every stop for a seconds and are able to run without wires, so trams will run between those stations without wires on streets.

So in December they'll have to open two stops at once (Ceasar Agustus and Murallas). Wow, that's some progress! I mean, they're waiting from now to October to open ONE stop, but yet just two months after that they'll open TWO stops at once. And yet four months after that stupendous event, the stretch to the military academy will come into service with a whole boatload of stops in one fell swoop, raising the question why 2012 is such a stupidly slow year for the Zaragoza streetcar.

In detail

Since April 2011 there is service Mago de Oz-Gran Via

Between northern Gran Via until southern La Chimenea it will be wireless as you can see in the video. The tramway will use only its battery to run those stations.

Phase 2 of line 1 (Gran Via - Av. Academia) started July 2011

This weekend started the test at Pza Paraiso to arrive the following station (Pza Aragon)

I take several photos from other messages in different threads...

What the test tramway made this weekend and you can see in videos was crossing this square (photo taken two months ago!!!!!!)

In October they will open two more stations: Plaza Aragon and Plaza España. It will arrive to the opposite corner of this photo

All the avenue between those stations is finished

In december 2012 they will open two more stations (Cesar Augusto and Murallas). That will be almost the full part wireless.

The tramway will cross this street (photo taken very near the last photo)

And last station will be located here (Murallas.... means "Walls", because those walls were built by Romans some years b.C)

Until Av. Academia (it is not until the military academy where you will be able to go only by bus, but only several kilometres before, until the avenue with the same name), the works will continue and opening is expected for April 2013

At the same time, the phase 1 of Line 2 (western line, almos seven stops more) will start on works on April 2013

In this thread you will find further information very punctual http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=893670

Some forumers post here several photos and a resume, but in that one you can see the day-to-day.

About phase 1 of line 1, Zaragoza tramway, we have the first image on Google Street view!

http://maps.google.es/maps?q=zaragoz...,241.4,,0,0.91

They have updated partially the city and one avenue that crosses the tramway axe has been updated. The photo is February 2011. That means, railway finished, tramway on tests and two months before opening.

You can see my link and follow the avenue with the tramway (not updated yet) and see the difference...

Hehe, I've found it. And it's the only image so far. It's between Emperador Carlos V and Romareda. Anyway, I prefer other images, those that are located straigh South from the future terminus at Avenida de la Academia.

If you turn 180º the image you will notice that it was still on works for two months and, just at the begining of the avenue it is located the Emperador Carlos V stop (in the left side of the railway)

They're not going to bring their Google Streetview cars to Zaragoza just to take pictures of the new trams. When it comes for Zaragoza to be updated according to the regular schedule, that's when it will happen.

It does make me wonder if anyone has written to Google something like, "You need to return to my street. I just rebuilt my house. The old house that you have on Streetview now - it doesn't look like that anymore."

What it is a pity is that some of main avenues have changed too much since 2009 when tramway works started (and service in 2011).

In february 2011 the google car stayed at Zaragoza and updated some roads... but not the whole axe for tramway... so the main part of the city that has changed is not updated.

If there are not many changes, obviously, no need... but in this case, just open the link posted before (found by CNGL) and follow in the rails... and you will see the difference.

News from Heraldo de Aragón: http://www.heraldo.es/noticias/arago...88933_301.html Google se pasea por Zaragoza (only in Spanish, it means "Google goes through Zaragoza")

Photo of yesterday in Zaragoza:

It says it is the regular schedule for Google of going here, so maybe they take my advice...

This photo is taken only one month ago.

This night (May 28th) the first tramway on test will cross this street between 22:00 and 0:00

As you can see, absolutely pedestrian street, except for tramway. In the narrowest point, and considering the space without rails, it is as wider as before the tramway

And... there are no catenary over the rails!!!!

There will be four stops without catenary. The tramway batteries will be charged while catenary and in every stop without it they can do a 15 seconds express charge, enough to continue.

First test about express charge are ok. This morning I saw them on live.

A tramway, while the night, run on test more than ten kilometres without the catenary, only the battery.

This is how the street is now

and you can compare with this google street view... just taken in February 2011!!!!!!

Gran Vía-Plaza Aragon-Independencia was under tests since several weeks ago.

Independencia-Cesar Augusto tests started yesterday night

(source: heraldo.es)

It is one of the narrowest street, as well as the one that will be used for more pedestrians walking there.

Stimated opening until Independencia: October 2012
Stimated opening until Murallas: December 2012

Cesar Augusto-Murallas have not started tests yet
