Conversely, no movement at my friendly neighborhood Sunoco this week.
Prices here aren't cheap either, I think Seattle was among the highest in the country until recently. The weird thing is that you can find a station at $2.99-3.09 in one spot and closer to $3.60 in another. But generally the closer to downtown you get, the more prices go up.

Okay, we're below $3.00 in suburban Philadelphia now. At least if you look at the right place: paid $2.979 at a Wawa on US 322 in Delaware County. Same price at a 7-11 across the street...and a Shell and Exxon about a quarter-mile away on a side road (across from each other) charging $3.159. $3.139 at my neighborhood Sunoco, down six cents since yesterday.

Well I'm back from my mini road trip into central Illinois. gas in Lincoln IL was $2.95 for regular unleaded. No ethanol blend available. Here in Cedar Rapids it's hovering from $2.95 up to $2.99 for unleaded plus which is a 10% ethanol blend.

Question: is Unleaded plus better than regular 95 unleaded?

I don't know. My car runs fine on unleaded plus with 10% ethanol which is only 87 octane by US standards. I've never put any higher grade gas in my car. When I travel I use regular unleaded which is also rated at 87 octane.

You see here in Iowa unleaded plus with 10 ethanol is the lowest price fuel. That is why so may folks use it.

Thanks.

I asked that because in all the service manuals of the cars/bikes I own or owned it always said to use fuel with a minimum level of RON of 90.

Note that not all countries use the same octane ratings. You cannot directly compare U.S. octane ratings with European octane rating by just looking at the numbers.

87 octane AKI (U.S.) is better than 90 octane RON in Europe.

The regular Euro 95 is comparable to 90-91 AKI in the U.S.

That's the information I was missing.

I thought that RON was the worldwide measure for Octane Level.

it was but US/Canada changed from RON to AKI measure in late 1970's, it was thought RON didn't account enough for sustained high-load operation compared to the "MON" test which is more conservative. 87 AKI rating is typically 91 RON and 83 MON (AKI = average knock index, (RON+MON) /2)

Of course in Germany with Autobahns all still using RON

The options here are usually 87, 89 and 93.

Thanks for the information. My car runs smooth on 87 octane unleaded with a 10% ethanol blend... AND I get 25-27 MPG in the city and about 32 mpg on the highway. And the cost is $2.95 a gallon.

And the speed limit on the interstate freeways is 70 mph.

There is a price war going on between 4 automated gas stations in my city (Zwolle, NL). They offer more than 20 cents discount, which is quite unheard of (usually 12-13 cents is the most discount they give you).

So we have prices of € 1.489 for petrol and € 1.289 for diesel, which is the lowest in several years (a few weeks ago they were charging around € 1.70 per liter).

€ 1.489/l = $ 7.15 per gallon

Back in 2008 when the exchange rate was different, there were times when gasoline cost more than $ 10 per gallon.

Same here.

In Q1 2012 we had a new tax on fuel, .1€/liter. Sum it with the global crisis, on 1st January 2012 I filled the tank paying 2€/liter, around 11$/gal.

And the night before I had the tank filled paying 1,8€/L.

Euro 95 - 4,99 PLN/L = 1,18 EUR/L = 1,50 $/L = 5,68 $/gallon
LPG - 2,59 PLN/L = 0,62 EUR/L = 0,77 $/L = 2,91 $/gallon

Around here we pay anywhere from $1.08(Cdn) to $1.23(Cdn) per litre, depending on where you buy your gas. That is approximately 96 cents to $1.10/litre in US dollars, or from .765 to .871€/liter.
