Basically European energy use policy seems to differ from the US one in that it tends to force less oil use through very high fuel taxes compared to the US and Canada, is this energy policy better than what the US has, where taxes on gas are very low, or should the EU allow fuel prices to settle down to US levels by reducing fuel taxes? What are the drawbacks of these policies of very high fuel taxes compared to the US? Why does Europe, unlike for example the US, view it as important to discourage gasoline use through the imposition of taxes? Because Europeans, unlike their American counterparts, are basically living in a peak cheap oil environment because of government taxes on fuel.

We paid $1.07Cdn(95 cents US) per litre in Niagara on the Lake the other day

Not much movement since I was last here a couple of weeks ago...best price is $2.559 per gallon for regular. By the way, one New Jersey quirk is that many if not most stations will charge less for cash sales than credit. I always make sure I have enough cash on me if I'm going to buy gas in New Jersey and the prices I've been quoting here are the cash prices.

Friendly neighborhood Sunoco in Philadelphia's been stuck at $2.939 for a couple of weeks.

Thanks Penn's Wood. Since I lived in San Diego for 26 years I just checked their prices .. they are at a low of $2.96 for regular unleaded. The high end is about $3.29 a gallon.

Now on the military bases in SD regular unleaded is running $2.93 a gallon.

More than likely some sort of fuel saver discount from a supermarket like Hy-Vee here in the Midwest.

Check it out!

OPEC decided not to cut production. Oil prices are falling as a result. Brent and WTI are now down 4%

Fuel in Italy dropped a lot in the last few weeks.

On the 11th of November the unmanned IP station where I use to fill up was selling Euro 95 at 1,699€/liter and Diesel at 1,599€/lt.

Today the same service station sells Euro 95 at 1,599€/lt and Diesel at 1,499€/lt.

.10€/lt less, in 15 days.

First time I see 1,5xx in Rome for Euro 95 in a while, let's say in 5/6 years.

The Netherlands has become really expensive compared to other countries in the region.

These are some of the regular prices in western Europe (not including discount)

Norway: € 1.72
Netherlands: € 1.70
Italy: € 1.69
Denmark: € 1.48
Belgium: € 1.48
Germany: € 1.46
Sweden: € 1.44
France: € 1.43
Switzerland: € 1.35
Spain: € 1.31
Luxembourg: € 1.22

Some six or seven years ago, NL was only a few cents more expensive than Belgium and Germany. Nowadays the difference is over 20 cents.

Alberta's average gas price has now fallen below $1.00. Probably where that 90 cent gas is coming from.

Ontario is still averaging around $1.10, though some rural gas stations are closer to $1.00.

I wouldn't be surprised if prices fall below a dollar before this plummet is over..

Spotted fuel today for 4.67zl/litre - or 1.12EUR at current exchange rates. Prices are varying heavily though, as my local petrol station is selling at 5.12zl. From the point of view of the driver, the Polish Government is heavily pro-car - and as a result, fuel taxes are likely to remain very low compared to Germany and other countries.
