Gas under a buck a litre in Beaverton, Ontario.. really weird to see. This is about an hour and a half outside of Toronto, where it is still around $1.10 however.

I was figuring out whether e are likely to see any further decreases in prices at the pumps...

Until July when Brent Crude had been averaging $110 per barrel pretty consistently for many months the cheapest unleaded 95 here was around £1.30.

That included 20% VAT so the price without VAT was £1.08.

Also petrol duty is £0.5795 per litre so the price without VAT or duty at $110 per barrel was £0.50 per litre.

The price of Brent Crude today is $67, a reduction of 39% on the pre-July $110. Therefore the £0.50 price of the actual oil should have fallen to around £0.31.

Add the £0.5795 duty and you get £0.89.

Add 20% VAT and you get £1.07, compared to the cheapest prices at the pumps of £1.17....

Now obviously the cost of crude oil isn't the only factor in the cost of petrol ex-tax at the pumps (the cost of refining oil, salaries of delivery drivers, costs of running the petrol stations etc haven't changed), but it is the major cost. So I think if current levels of crude oil prices are kept at $65-70 we could get down to around £1.10.

Currently the retailers seem to be pricing petrol for oil at $85 per barrel, which is where it was in mid-late October...

I noticed today that the same BP station I fueled up at last week was now serving unleaded regular a 10% Ethanol blend for $2.41 a gallon.

That's a price I would hope to have in Europe !

I like adventure, and Europe is a very interesting continent to visit by your own mean, I mean by car/motorbike, especially since no border, or very few ones exists between countries. Unfortunately, high prices of gasoline, heavy road tolls, speed cameras everywhere, demonization of individual transports in some countries, high parking fees, all makes it difficult and unpleasant - unlikely the USA - for an average citizen to drive all along Europe his own way; maybe with the few exceptions, he is a professional driver (and you're not free)/the company he works in pay him for it (very unlikely)/ he is a rich fellow .

Most people in Europe, nowadays book on low cost airlines, low cost shabby hostels/hotels, eat disgusting low cost fast foods, and see low cost sightseeings, which mean only tourist traps inside city centers (mostly, he has no clue on the peripheral area, or the countryside), but boast they know perfectly well the entire countries they had visit, traveling on overcrowded airports with very nasty and rude controls, waiting hours to enter the delayed planes, when one's inside reveal to be nothing more than tight tin cans for badgers they are

Driving in some European countries is a pleasure though, like Poland Schengen in particular makes it a lot more pleasant and easy than before (though the USA by comparison doesn't have that issue)

Now France, maybe you'd want to drive the car off a bridge after a while after so many gendarmes, controles, radars and peages

I agree with you, except for some points:

- Poland has many bad roads, if you drive off newly built Autostrady/Ekspresowki, some national, and many regional/local roads.
- Some areas that would be considered as small towns/villages in my country are still connected with dirt roads full of potholes.
- Lots of reckless and aggressive driving, almost like psychos were behind the steering wheel. Even, if I must recognize, it has overwhelmingly improved recently.
- Still lack of motorways/expressways, and overcrowded national roads full of trucks, making average speed very low and overtaking dangerous and senseless.
- Gasoline is quite expensive for the average Pole.

Regarding the overly expensive tolls, radar and police controls, it is far from being a France only situation. In many other European countries you shall want to drive you car off the bridge, and not only for that
