Tosic.. here's a short history of passenger train travel in the US. Passenger train travel in the US peaked during WWII at 98 billion passenger miles in 1945 ...it was all downhill after that.

take a look at these links;

end off topic..

...gas is up to $2.25 a gallon in Cedar Rapids...

Here in Iowa the state legislature just passed an additional .10 cents a gallon gas tax that will go into affect this Sunday. Our state gas tax now will be .30 cents a gallon.

Gov. Branstad signs gas tax increase bill.

I'm not usually in favor of new taxes but in the case of this tax it is really needed to get some repairs and upgrades done to our roads in Iowa.

I don't mind paying the extra .10 cents a gallon.

It is estimated the state of Iowa will collect $215 million dollars annually with the new gas tax.

Iowa gas tax increase will start this Sunday

Quote:
Thirty percent of all funds collected through use of this user tax will be from out of state motorists using our roads. This is a good bill, it's an easy vote," said Sen. Matt McCoy.

The gas tax increase would provide about $215 million annually for Iowa's network of bridges and roads, many of which are considered deteriorating.

Say you drive 20,000 miles per year. You consume 25 miles per gallon. That's 800 gallons of fuel per year. A 10 cent increase would cost you $ 6.67 per month. Not unbearable, I'd say. And money well spent.

Apologies for a little off-topic...

Is there any kind of online Fuel-prices service available in Poland?
I'm excited using such services in Germany (eg. tanken.t-online.de or clever-tanken.de)

Wondering if there are any similar services available in Poland?
I always have Internet connectivity while travelling and such service might help me saving 5-10% on fuel cost by choosing cheaper petrol stations close to highway exits...

There is a good Irish site called pumps.ie, maybe contact them and offer to localise their code for Poland.

So long as the tax collected actually GOES to road & bridge improvements. Many times other projects suck tax revenue out of one pocket and stuff it into another, more vocal pocket. After all, a pothole doesn't vote.

EN95 is 350-360 HUF in Hungary nowadays.
It's approx. 1.15-1.20 /l or $5 / gal.
