according to the news this is a short term price hike..

Gas prices in Iowa and other Midwestern states could spike as much as 30 cents in the next week due to a larger than typical slate of maintenance work at refineries around the Midwest, tightening supplies, according to a fuel analyst.

Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst at GasBuddy.com, said temporary fluctuations in gas prices is normal as summer fuel is replaced by gas refined for winter, but the projected 10 to 30 cent increase this year is unusual, although likely short-lived.

“This is not the usual reaction we see to the cheaper winter gas,” DeHaan said. “A lot of refineries in the region are down for one reason or another. This is a normal time to eke out repairs, but there have been a whole slew of issues.”

Remember you guys work with gallons, while the rest of the world works with smaller units (liters). $ 0.09 per gallon* is only € 0.02 per liter, not something the average European will complain about a lot.

* I assume you meant $ 0.09 and not 0.9 cents, i.e. $ 0.009

Trust me I'm not complaining because I know how much fuel is in the rest of the World.

And I did mean .09 cents a gallon.

Maybe Europeans are less picky? I'd definitely pay attention to 2 cents per litre

A 30 cent/gallon hike is probably close to adding $3-4 to the total price if you fill a sedan at quarter tank. Not really a big deal.

I think it's a matter of large numbers. A 10 cent/liter hike is more but because it accounts for lower numbers, it sounds like it is less to some.

Zabrze, Poland - Lukoil:

E95: 4,39 PLN > 1,04 EUR
E98: 4,71 PLN > 1,12 EUR
Diesel: 4,25 PLN > 1,01 EUR
LPG: 1,77 PLN > 0,42 EUR

1 EUR = 4,21 PLN

I've seen US$2.37 9/10 per US gallon for 87 pump octane (91 RON) unleaded in Sacramento, CA lately. With the full switch to cheaper winter blend gasoline to be complete by the end of October 2015, I wouldn't be surprised if it drops to US$1.89 9/10 per US US gallon (or less!) for the same fuel by the end of November 2015.

How big are the differences in fuel prices in the US?
Does it have an impact on the differences in state taxes?

Paid $2.07/gal (€0.5/liter) on Monday. It cost me only $20 to fill up at quarter tank, pretty nice.

$2.07 a gallon??..great!! Those prices should be coming to Iowa soon. Yesterday I also gassed up my car and the final cost was $19.75..pumped at $2.29 a gallon. We usually fill up our tank every Thursday or Friday.

Paid $1.839 in Runnemede, N.J., today (saw a $1.819 on the other side of the road). $2.279 at the neighborhood Sunoco, five miles from there but in another state.

The cheapest gas you can find in Toronto is 89.1 cents Canadian per litre, which is 68 cents US per litre, or 0.61 Euros per litre.

And to further complicate matters, a US Gallon is smaller than the Imperial gallon that used to be used by the UK, Canada, Australia, etc.... If you order a Pint of beer in the US, be prepared that your glass may not be a full sized Imperial Pint glass!

I'm still hoping that one day the US will realise how easy, logical and great is the metric system and they will find the courage to adopt it!!!
