How'd you pull that off? Is that the going rate up there now?

$2.239 here this morning. Had been stuck at $2.259 for probably over a month, with a quick spike to $2.319 before Thanksgiving.

Robbers!

Last night on the way home I gassed up my Camry for a cool $1.80 a gallon with what is now being called, again, "unleaded plus" a 10% ethanol blend.

How widespread is a 10% ethanol blend in the U.S. nowadays? For example in France E10 is pretty much standard now, you'll have to be lucky to find a pump that has regular gasoline (Euro 95), otherwise the alternative is a premium gasoline (Euro 98 or one of those 'excellium' products).

Iowa with it's small population of 3.1 million is the largest consumer of the ethanol blend according to local news.

But the only place I've ever seen the 10% ethanol blend for sale aside from Iowa is in Wisconsin & Nebraska. Now flex fuel(E85 is 85% ethanol) is available all over the US but I've only seen fleet vehicles use it.

This link will have some information claiming 95% of US gasoline contains ethanol.

Gas prices are going down again. Paid $2.10/gallon (€0.506/l) earlier this week.

Haven't paid attention but the state here requires 2% ethanol.

I don't believe that there is any real benefit to adding ethanol to gasoline for consumers. It doesn't make it cheaper nor does it make cars more fuel efficient. The mandate is basically just a subsidy for corn farmers...

UK petrol prices below £1 per litre for the first time since 2009! Diesel is still slightly above £1 but hopefully in another couple of weeks that will also head below the pound.

Quote:
Morrisons, Tesco and Sainsbury's have cut the petrol price below £1 a litre, the lowest UK price level, excluding special promotions, since 2009.

The supermarket chains will be selling petrol at 99.9p per litre and cutting diesel by 1p a litre.

The price of crude oil continues to fall, with Brent now below $40 a barrel and close to a seven-year low.

Asda is running a weekend 99.7p promotion on petrol, with diesel at 103.7p per litre until Sunday.

Morrisons moved first and was followed later in the day by Tesco and Sainsbury's.

Petrol and diesel are both taxed at the same rate in the UK, unlike many countries in continental Europe where diesel has lower tax.

There is VAT of 20% on road fuel like most products, and there is also a £0.5995 per litre specific duty on petrol and diesel.

So at a retail price of £1 we are paying £0.1667 in VAT and £0.5995 in fuel duty, or £0.7662 total tax, 76.62% of the retail price. With no tax at all the price would be £0.2338 per litre (€0.33), which works out at $1.34/US gallon

Ok Jonesy55..I've a question, since I do not understand the £ figures, what I'd like to know is with the tax added how much would gas be a gallon in US dollars? Thanks.

With the current price at £1 per litre that would be $1.51 per litre at the exchange rate today, and with 3.79 litres per US gallon that makes $5.70.

That is amazingly cheap compared with the $8-9 we were paying a couple of years ago!

$1.34 USD per US gallon without taxes - in other words, pretty much exactly what it costs in the USA on the other end of the world.
Isn't globalization awesome?

In Austria, today, diesel prices ranged between 0,97 and 1,00 Euro/liter (I checked about 10 petrol stations, all were along a road I drove).

Record-lows in Switzerland as well. These days gas stations cut prices by another 3 rappens. A photo taken today:

Lowest I have seen in the last 5 years.
With the strong Swiss Franc (between 1.05 - 1.10 CHF/EUR in the past months), especially the diesel price might not appear cheap to EU folks. But diesel was scratching 2 francs per liter only 2-3 years ago ...

How the prices can be so low? They are not puting any taxes on diesel?

Diesel is always cheaper than gasoline in Moldova due to lower tax on it

(Because our farmers are heavily dependent on it )
