Huh!
I don't get to New England as often as I used to, but I've always tended to avoid buying in Connecticut if I can; their prices have usually been higher than their neighbors'.

I'm pretty sure Connecticut has a percentage based gas tax on top of a (relatively low) flat per gallon tax, so when gas is expensive Connecticut usually is one of the most expensive states, but when gas is cheap it is in the middle of the pack.

$1.89 here in Seattle.

With low gas prices and the relatively good MPG on my car, I'm only spending around $55 a month for gasoline.

When gas was around $4/gallon less than two years ago, I was spending more than double that.

Slovenia - Ceiling Prices Set by the Government
Eurosuper 95: 1.155 EUR
Eurosuper 98/100: 1.207 EUR
Diesel: 0.978 EUR
Heating Oil: 0.639 EUR
LPG (price isn't regulated) - Petrol: 0.599 EUR
Methane (price also isn't regulated) - Energetika Ljubljana - 0.920 EUR

Italy - Livigno (Tax Free - Eni)
Super 95: 0.857 EUR
Diesel: 0.662 EUR
Premium Diesel: 0.762 EUR

And a few pages ago, someone was surprised that the prices of unleaded 95/98 can be the same. Unfortunately, I couldn't yet post a picture/link then, because I hadn't accumulated a sufficient number of posts. Here it is though, from Sarajavo, BiH. 1 EUR = 1.95583 BAM. Sorry that I wasn't able to integrate the photo directly into the post.

Why is California so expensive? Does it have a special tax or something?

Because of the huge debts of California. The state government has to take the money from somewhere to repay debt

Do Canadian people at US-Canada border towns travel often to fill up in US? Or just not worth the hassle and toll?

It's probably the easiest to cross the border in the prairie provinces (no tolls, low traffic), but the prices in the prairies are lower than the rest of Canada and the border region is sparsely populated.

But there apparently is some cross-border shopping. Grand Forks or Fargo isn't too far away from Winnipeg if you want to go on a shopping spree for the holidays. But for daily shopping it's not worth the stretch. For instance there is no major retail in Pembina, which may be an indication of the limited need for cross-border shopping.

Exactly, 3 years ago when I went from Winnipeg to North Dakota, we were the only car at the border control!

Oh they have a very high fuel tax and as pointed out California is very highly in debt.

In the US gas tax varies by state.

There's also a Federal tax on fuel. which is 18.4 cents a gallon.

It's amazing how raising the federal gas tax equals political suicide, while raising the state gas tax happens frequently.
